Who are the top-scoring IDP rookies from Week 4? Check out the Rookie Recap to see who they are and the impact that they had this week.
Each week I will do an IDP rookie recap of the previous week’s top-scoring IDP rookies. The scoring for the rookies is based on the IDP Nation Listener League 2 scoring. I’ll break down the tier one rookies (top 12 scoring rookies) and what their impact could have on your fantasy team’s rosters.
From stud rookies to the one-hit wonders, I will give you everything you need to know about the rookies you drafted. There were some new names on the list this week, so let’s take a look at the top-performing rookies from Week 4.
Eric Stokes, CB, Green Bay Packers
This past week’s top-scoring IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is Green Bay Packers cornerback Eric Stokes. He makes his first appearance on the list this season with 32 fantasy points scored (FPTS) in week 4. Stokes started his second consecutive game, playing 100% of the defensive snaps (130 total). In week 4 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, he recorded 8 tackles (all solos), 1 interception, and 2 PBUs.
Fantasy managers started Stokes in 16% of MFL.com leagues last week. Playing opposite of veteran Jaire Alexander, the 1st round draft pick will continue to get the opportunity to pile up stats. The Packers have struggled at cornerback in the past, but Stokes finally gives them a solid option to pair with Alexander. Whether you like to stream the cornerback position or not, Stokes is a great position-specific league option.
Caden Sterns, S, Denver Broncos
The next top-scoring IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is Denver Broncos safety Caden Sterns. This makes the second straight week that Sterns has made the list and this week he comes in at #2. He scored 20.5 fantasy points last week versus the Baltimore Ravens. Sterns tallied 3 tackles (all solos), 2 TFLs, 2 sacks, and 1 PBU. The amazing part is he did all this on just 7 defensive (10%) and 12 special teams snaps (40%).
You may call him opportunistic or lucky, but I call him efficient. This is the second week in a row that he’s made a big impact on a small number of reps. Sterns keeping up this type of impact on a small workload isn’t feasible, but it will earn him a bigger role which will allow him to continue to be a star.
Fantasy managers started him in 32% of MFL.com leagues last week and he’s been one of the hottest waiver additions this week. It’s just a matter of time until he moves into a starting role, so get him on your rosters.
Tyson Campbell, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars
We continue the IDP rookie recap with another cornerback in the Jacksonville Jaguars Tyson Campbell. This is Campbell’s second straight appearance on the list and both times he’s been in the top three. He scored 19.3 fantasy points last week on the road versus the Cincinnati Bengals. In his third consecutive start for the Jaguars, he would play 58 of the defensive snaps (100%) and produce 9 tackles, 4 being solo, and 1 TFL.
Fantasy managers started Campbell in 50% of MFL.com leagues. Just like his former Georgia teammate above, Eric Stokes, he is a great streaming option if you need help at cornerback. The Jaguars traded away their former number one pick C.J. Henderson to open up a spot for Campbell. Campbell’s playing time has increased each week and so has his production, so take advantage and get him in your weekly lineups.
Marco Wilson, CB, Arizona Cardinals
Next up on my IDP rookie recap is a player, Marco Wilson of the Arizona Cardinals, making his second consecutive appearance. Coming into this season, Wilson is not a name that you would expect to see on this list each week. He has started all four games for the Cardinals, having played 205 total snaps (79%). With those snaps, he has put together a solid start to the season, where he’s produced 18 tackles, 15 being solo, 1 PBU, and 1 forced fumble.
Last week versus the Los Angeles Rams, he recorded a career-best eight tackles in a big win over their high-powered offense. Wilson along with his teammate, Byron Murphy, has been a huge part of the success the Cardinals defense has had this season. Wilson scored 19 fantasy points last week and was started in 40% of MFL.com leagues. This is the second week in a row Wilson finished in the top of five in the rookie recap and has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy managers.
Pete Werner, LB, New Orleans Saints
Up next is a newcomer to the list and our first linebacker this week, Pete Werner of the New Orleans Saints. What a great way to make your first appearance with a breakout performance, with 10 tackles, 6 solos, and 1 TFL. Werner got his second start and highest rep count of the season playing 40 of the defensive snaps (63%). Fantasy managers have been waiting for him to break out and it looks like his time is here.
Fantasy managers started Werner in just 16% of MFL.com leagues, but that will shoot way up after last week’s outing. I am not making him a weekly must-start just yet, as I want to see a couple more solid games from him before I promote him from my taxi squads. I am however looking to pick up off the waiver wire where I can. If you need help at linebacker, then don’t be afraid to ask for him as an add-in in any trades you make.
Osa Odighizuwa, DT, Dallas Cowboys
As we continue the IDP rookie recap, we get our first defensive tackle of the week, Osa Odighizuwa of the Dallas Cowboys! It’s not every day we get a DT to make our weekly list and definitely don’t get one to make back-to-back appearances, but Odighizuwa has done just that. He scored 17.8 fantasy points last week versus the Carolina Panthers, which follows up the 22.3 points the week before.
Odighizuwa made his fourth consecutive start as a rookie for the Cowboys and has really stepped it up in the past two contests. In the last two games, he played 74 of the defensive snaps (58%) and recorded seven tackles, four being solo, two TFLs, two sacks, and five QB hits. Fantasy managers have noticed his play, as they started him in 46% of MFL.com leagues last week. Odighizuwa is a terrific addition for your fantasy teams, especially if you play in position-specific leagues.
Patrick Surtain II, CB, Denver Broncos
Up next on the IDP rookie recap, is Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II and what a run he’s on. This week marks his third straight appearance on the list and joins CB Paulson Adebo as the only two rookies to have accomplished that this season. Surtain II scored 16.8 fantasy points this week and the third in a row with over 15 points. Last week versus the Baltimore Ravens he tallied 6 tackles, all of the solo variety.
Surtain II has started the last three games for the Broncos and fantasy managers started him in 30% of MFL.com leagues last week. He played 63 of the defensive snaps (86%)and has made an impact since becoming a starter. In his three starts, Surtain II has recorded 15 tackles, 13 being solos, 1 interception, and 2 PBUs. I had him as one of my top five IDPs in this draft class, now he’s paying off for me and hopefully you as well.
Joe Tryon, OLB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The next top-scoring rookie on the IDP rookie recap is one we all have been waiting to shine and that’s linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite making three starts and playing 50% of the defensive snaps on the season, he hadn’t made much of an impact. That was quickly put to bed last week when he had one hell-of-a performance versus the New England Patriots.
Tryon played 50 of the defensive snaps (85%) and registered 2 tackles, both solos, 2 TFLs, 2 sacks, and an impressive four QB hits. He harassed Mac Jones all game long.
Started in just 19% of MFL.com leagues last week, that number will skyrocket after his big breakout versus the Patriots. I have him stashed on a number of my taxi squads, as I thought it would be next year before he really was a factor. However, with Jason Pierre-Paul aging, the shot of youth from Tryon has been electric. I have found him on waivers in a number of leagues, so go check and snatch him up if he’s available.
Trevon Moehrig, S, Las Vegas Raiders
Next, we have a newcomer on the IDP rookie recap, Trevon Moehrig of the Las Vegas Raiders. Moehrig has started all four games and played nearly every single snap (276/98%) for the Raiders. While he has had some solid performances, this past week versus the Los Angeles Chargers was his best game to date, where he had 5 tackles, all solos, and 1 PBU. For the week he scored 15.5 fantasy points to rank ninth among all IDP rookies.
He was started in 17% of MFL.com leagues and I have seen him available on waivers in a number of leagues. The Raiders have a great safety tandem with him and Johnathan Abram. Two youngsters who compliment each other and will be good for a very long time. This is a player that I am targeting to add to all my fantasy teams and so should you.
Avery Williams, CB, Atlanta Falcons
We have another newcomer on the IDP rookie recap, Avery Williams, who is a surprise to the list. The Atlanta Falcons rookie played 50 of the defensive snaps (75%) and 23 of the special team’s snaps (85%). Williams recorded 7 tackles, 4 being solo and 1 QB hit. He scored 14.8 fantasy points last week versus the Washington Football Team. Quite the performance from a non-starter, but one worth noting.
When I went back and looked, I was amazed to see he was started in 48% of MFL.com fantasy leagues. Which made me check his availability in my leagues and he was available in most of them. I really don’t know much about him, but he’s on my watch list of rookies going forward. In deep leagues, he’s worth a flyer to see if he’s going to be a player of value.
Michael Carter, S New York Jets
Next up on my IDP rookie recap is, safety Michael Carter of the New York Jets. This is Carter’s third appearance on the list, making him the third player to accomplish that so far this season. The Jets are leading the league in snaps given to rookies and Carter’s play has been a big reason why. Carter has seen a steady increase in snaps and has consistently produced each week.
Last week versus the Tennesse Titans he played 75 of the defensive snaps (75%) and ten of the special team snaps (10%). Carter recorded 5 tackles, 4 were solo, and 1 PBU. That makes four straight games with at least five or more tackles. I have been watching since Week 1 and now I’m looking to add him to my fantasy rosters.
Chauncey Golston, DE, Dallas Cowboys
The final player on this week’s IDP rookie recap is defensive end Chauncey Golston of the Dallas Cowboys. This marks Golston’s first appearance on the list and the Cowboys definitely needed it with all their defensive line problems. Just like a bunch of others on this week’s list, Golston had a breakout performance in Week 4. He played 49 of the defensive snaps (70%) and recorded 5 tackles, 3 being solo, ½ a sack, and 1 QB hit.
We all know about the struggles (injuries, suspensions, etc) the Cowboys have had along the defensive line, but Golston is giving them some relief at the position. After not playing the first two weeks of the season, he’s played 79 of the defensive snaps (40% over that stretch) and registered 8 tackles, 6 being solos, ½ a sack, and 1 TFL. Defensive end is a position that doesn’t have a lot of depth in the fantasy world, so go grab Golston now.
Summary
This concludes the rookie recap for this week! I’ll be back next week with week two results, as we begin to see these rookies and others get more acclimated to the league.
