The first full week of college football is in the books. Let’s take a look at some NCAA IDP Waiver Adds for Week 2.
IDP for college football can be hard to figure out. Weekly, I will provide NCAA Waiver Adds for IDP players who are rostered under 50%, according to Fantrax. The goal of these articles is to give insight into both College Fantasy Redraft and Campus to Canton (C2C) leagues. Let’s take a look at some players to check for your league’s waiver wire!
Disclaimer: All league sizes and formats are different. Meaning some of these players may or may not be available in your league.
Defensive Linemen
Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan – 49% rostered
Week 1 Stat Line: 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 blocked kick
Hutchinson barely falls into this category but is under 50%. I assume part of this is the Harbaugh effect and not trusting Michigan players. Hutchinson only played two games in 2020 because of injury but, against Western Michigan, he looked dominant and came very close to adding a few more sacks. He was constantly in the backfield and he provides pass rushing and the ability to stop the run.
TyJuan Garbutt, Virginia Tech – 1% rostered
Week 1 Stat Line: 3 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble
Garbutt and the VT defense played a great first game in stifling Sam Howell and the UNC offense. He equaled his career sack total in this game and was on the field for 59% of the VT defensive snaps. Of his 40 snaps, 29 were as a pass rusher — that is his role and where he will get most of his production. He not only caused two sacks but also had two hurries.
Linebackers
Arron Mosby, Fresno State – 31% rostered
Week 1 Stat Line: 8 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble
Mosby is a fifth-year player and, before 2021, he had only one sack in his career. In Fresno State’s first game, UCONN was so inept on offense that he only played 14 snaps. Against Oregon, Mosby upped that total by being on the field 54 out of 74 snaps. He is about 50-50 on his snap counts of playing rush defense role and pass rusher.
Joshua Paschal, Kentucky – 4% rostered
Week 1 Stat Line: 7 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack
Paschal is another fifth-year player who has had over 300 defensive snaps in three of those years. He is not used much in coverage but is utilized in both run stopping and pass rushing. Even in a blowout, Paschal played 49 out of 78 snaps on defense. If he continues to play that percentage, then he should continue to provide good production on Kentucky’s solid defense.
Defensive Backs
Phillip Hill, UNLV – 0% rostered
Week 1 Stat Line: 9 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 interception
Hill has not received much significant playing time in his career, but in his first game of 2021, he was on the field 64 out of 73 snaps. In the last three years, UNLV has been 100th — or worse — in total yards allowed. With this poor of defense, there are plenty of tackles to be made. Hill at the safety position could provide great stats week to week for UNLV.
Tavian Combs, New Mexico – 1% rostered
Week 1 Stat Line: 12 tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble
Combs, as a freshman, played in seven games and had over 50 tackles. In 2021, he has continued that early success with a strong game against Houston Baptist. Playing safety, Combs should continue to rack up the tackles for New Mexico. Like UNLV, New Mexico has a poor defense and has finished 98th or worse in the last three years in yards allowed per game. Combs played 72 of 85 defensive or special teams snaps.
Make sure to check out our waiver adds every Monday during the season. The deeper we go into the season the more consistency players will show. This initial article is based on just one week, so there may be volatility in production.
