Which player heads this year’s class? Look to the west coast and freshman DE, Korey Foreman of the USC Trojans

The high school recruiting phase can be a volatile one, because of all of the pressure. Recruits are promised the sun and the moon by every school in the nation. Those same schools are at the recruits’ mercy as they wait for them to commit. Even then, nothing is certain until their name is pen to paper. Let’s take a look at the top of the class in 2021 and see where they will make an impact.

Humble Beginnings

Korey Foreman is the #1 overall player in the country and comes from Corona, California. He played for Centennial High School. Due to Covid-19, his school didn’t compete during his senior year, but his freshman to junior seasons are impressive. Foreman played 23 games played over that span, and produced 59 tackles, 16 solos,  and 12½ sacks. In 2019, he had 32 tackles, including 5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a deflection. In 2018, he had 23 tackles with 6 sacks and 3 deflections, and as a 2017 freshman, he had 4 tackles (with 1.5 sacks). It’s easy to see why Foreman is top of the class in 2021.

Foreman was a highly decorated star and made the 2020 PrepStar Dream Team as a senior defensive end. In addition, he was named to the All-American Bowl Team.  As a 2019 junior, he made Max Preps Junior All-American first team, Max Preps All-California first team, All-CIF Division 1, and Los Angeles Times All-Area.  In 2018, as a sophomore, he made the Max Preps Junior All-American first team and Cal-Hi Sports All-State Sophomores first team, and Riverside Press-Enterprise All-Area second team.

What the Future Holds

After numerous offers from the best football programs in the country, Foreman committed to the USC Trojans on January 2nd, 2021.  At 6’4”/265 lbs he has the prototype frame and all-around game to be an elite pass rusher at the college level.  He possesses a natural strength, quickness of the ball, and supreme athleticism. Foreman plays with a high motor and strong run defens. He possesses point of attack physicality, and excels on backside pursuit. There doesn’t seem to be any weaknesses in his game except maybe some rust to be worked off. That’s to be expected after missing half of his junior season with an injury and all of his senior year, due to covid. These are just a few of the things that helped make him top of the class of 2021.

The Trojans have a lot of talent along the defensive line, starting with star DE Drake Jackson. Foreman easily slots in as the second-best talent and will have an opportunity to earn a starting role. With the transfer of  Caleb Tremblay, Foreman will have to beat out the likes of talented senior Nick Figueroa and sophomore Tui Tuipulotu, who plays more inside at defensive tackle. With his talent, it shouldn’t take Foreman long to ascend the Trojans’ depth chart. USC has a long history of pass rushers and Foreman could be the next in that legacy.

Fantasy impact

In the fantasy world, this is exactly the type of player that you should be looking to roster for your fantasy teams. A potential elite option at a premium position with a full four years of eligibility.  Expectations should be tempered as it’s rare for freshmen to make an immediate impact. With that said, he’s no ordinary freshman and has a great situation in front of him to become the next fantasy stud. Foreman is a must roster player for your IDP Campus 2 Canton and IDP Devy leagues. He’s at the top of the class and should be at the top of your draft list!

Foreman will provide your fantasy team with a great supply of sacks and tackles for a loss, and a decent amount of tackles. The tackles will increase as he gets adjusted to the college game. Foreman’s value is currently trending upwards and not likely to come down anytime soon. If he meets expectations, he’ll never be cheaper acquire than he is right now. As a result, now is the time to buy-low, and reap the rewards for your fantasy teams.
