Jamal Adams has voiced his frustration with the Jets and has officially requested a trade. Here I will cover the top landing spots for Jamal Adams.

Where are the top landing spots for Jamal Adams? Adams has voiced his frustration with the Jets on more than one occasion and who can blame him after the team has failed to build a contender since he was drafted. Then the team went and hired Coach Adam Gase after he had numerous failed head coaching attempts. Adams is one of the top safeties in the NFL and he will have many suitors via the trade market. Lets take a look at who the top landing spots for Jamal Adams are.

5) Kansas City Chiefs

Current Starting Safeties – Tyrann Mathieu and Juan Thornhill

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of a comeback Super Bowl victory. Lets just say that it was not the secondary that won the game for them. Tyrann Mathieu is a star safety and they have a talented, up and coming, Juan Thornhill to pair with him. So why would the Chiefs need to add Adams? First you can never have too much talent on defense. Secondly, the Chiefs currently deploy one of the weakest linebacker units in the NFL. Rookie Willie Gay Jr. is their best linebacker and every other linebacker is just absolutely terrible in coverage. The Chiefs experimented in running extra defensive backs on the field and Jamal Adams could easily play in the box as a cover linebacker.

4) Houston Texans

Current Starting Safeties – Justin Reid and Eric Murray

The Texans had one of the best safety units in 2018 when they deployed Justin Reid (his rookie season), Tyrann Mathieu and Kareem Jackson. The team ran multiple safety sets and and the group struck fear in opposing offenses. In 2019 the team decided to go more traditional as both Kareem Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu chose to leave in free agency. The Texans did not do the best job in replacing the two as they added veteran Tashaun Gipson who just unfortunately is not the player he once was. They did not do the best job replacing even Gipson. Eric Murray was the choice this off-season and he has had trouble holding down a starting job with both the Chiefs and the Browns. Adams would form a vicious duo with Reid.

3) San Francisco 49ers

Current Starting Safeties – Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward

The 49ers were literally one quarter away from winning the Super Bowl in 2019. The defense was a huge part of that but the biggest question mark was their secondary. The safeties Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt are both solid safeties but neither are what I would call a difference maker. Tartt and Ward have combined to miss 38 games over the past three seasons while Adams has only missed two over the same span. He adds yet another level to this Super Bowl contender and would be a one of the most enticing landing spots for Jamal Adams.

2) Philadelphia Eagles

Current Starting Safeties – Rodney McLeod and Jalen Mills

The Eagles chose to move on from Malcolm Jenkins this off-season who has been a staple for the Eagles defense for the past six seasons. He brought to the table a level of physicality that allowed him to play more of a hybrid safety/linebacker. Jenkins left in free agency to join the Saints and the Eagles have been left with Jalen Mills to try and fill the role. Mills came into the leagues as a safety that switched to cornerback and has had mixed results.

Mills is nowhere near as physical a safety as Jenkins is and the defense will likely need to change the way they run the defense with Mills at the helm. If the Eagles were able to trade for Adams then the defense would not only stay the same but would thrive. Adams could play the same role as Jenkins but as an upgrade leaving the Eagles as one of the best landing spots for Jamal Adams.

1) Dallas Cowboys

Current Starting Safeties – Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Xavier Woods

The Cowboys have been void of any real presence at the safety position for years now. I have voiced my disapproval for the group for a couple years now and was very vocal about them not adding to the position with last years’s crop of free agent safeties. The Cowboys added Ha Ha Clinton-Dix which is a significant upgrade but he has still played inconsistently for the past few years landing on four teams in the past 3 seasons seasons.

Clinton-Dix does have 16 career interceptions and could move to a free safety role or at least battle Xavier Woods for the job and Adams could slot in as the strong safety. The Cowboys currently employ an extremely strong defense and Adams could be the tipping point to make this a Super bowl caliber defense.

Conclusion

Jamal Adams is currently my #2 ranked safety for fantasy purposes and his landing spot could change that outcome, but not likely. These are five legitimate options where Adams could land. I would love to see him complete the defense for the 49ers but we will see how this plays out. Either way some team’s secondary is about to vastly improve.
