Top Five Dynasty Running Backs

Dynasty running backs come and go the most frequently in fantasy football. Having one of the top guys will prove to be worth it in the end, but who are they?

Dynasty running backs come and go, but are sure worth it when it comes to having some of the best in a dynasty league. With it truly being an argument besides the number one, here are the top five dynasty running backs.

5. Joe Mixon

Joe Mixon has been in the NFL since 2017 and finally started to get some respect after the 2020 season. He has had over 1,100 rushing yards in three of his five seasons.

Although he only appeared in six games in 2019 and started in just seven his rookie year, Mixon has the fifth-most rushing yards since entering the NFL. That puts him with some of the best fantasy running backs in the past years — Derrick Henry, Dalvin Cook, and Ezekiel Elliot.

Mixon being in a young, high-powered offense only makes a better case as the fifth running back on this list. Mixon, Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins are all 25 or younger.

Being one of the top five dynasty running backs means there is involvement in the passing game. Mixon was the best in his career at that this season, posting over 300 receiving yards on 42 receptions. Touchdowns are the biggest key in fantasy football. Mixon had a total of 16, putting him tied for third this past season.

 

4. Najee Harris

With no games missed, over 90 targets, and just four single-digit scoring games, Najee Harris is a certified RB1 in dynasty fantasy football. A dip in the targets might happen in 2022 with improvement in the quarterback department, but Harris is the workhorse and most important piece on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense.

As a rookie, Harris had the second-most carries in the NFL which is something a manager wants as drafting him will be in the ending of the first or early second round. The best thing about the quarterback change will be not having to rely on Harris as much. That will give more rest to his body, which will help him to produce at an even higher level.

Finishing as the RB4 this season, the only thing managers should be crying for is joy, because Najee Harris is just getting started.

3. D’Andre Swift

D’Andre Swift played college football at the University of Georgia. Therefore, he is going to be great. Swift is a PPR dream for everyone out there who appreciates a running back who can catch really well out the backfield.

He missed four games and played in over 78% of the snaps in just ONE game. In that game, Swift had 33 rushing attempts for 130 yards with 3 receptions. This shows that he can not only be a threat in the receiving game but Swift can also make noise running the ball. He finished as the RB15, despite the games missed.

Also, Swift had 16 fewer targets than leaders Najee Harris and Austin Ekeler. The hype train is about to take off, and now is the time to purchase tickets to the D’Andre Swift Express.

2. Christian McCaffrey

The once king of dynasty running backs is now working out underwater in a pool. McCaffrey had an insane first three first seasons, finishing as the RB10, RB2, and RB1.

Since then, CMC has not been able to finish a season. He has played in ten combined games between 2020 and 2021, but the disrespect has got to stop. CMC has had a bad case of injuries the past two seasons, but that does not stop him from being one of the best fantasy assets EVER. At age 25, he has plenty left and still wins weeks when he is playing.

It is that simple. McCaffrey averaged 18.2 points when healthy this past season. In the three games he played in 2020, he averaged 30.1 points. Most quarterbacks can’t even keep that average.

CMC is a bonafide stud. The only thing that stops him from being number one is that he hasn’t been able to stay on the field. In 2022, there is a good chance CMC returns to his old self and reclaims the RB1 crown.

1. Jonathan Taylor

The king of running backs in the 2021 season, Jonathan Taylor had a bad first three weeks and then went on a historic run. Including a 50 point bomb vs the Buffalo Bills, JT led the way this season for the Indianapolis Colts. He had a league-leading 1,811 rushing yards, with second place being at 1,259.

The truth is, that with Carson Wentz‘s questionable play at times, Taylor will be relied on more than ever by the Colts which puts him in prime position to repeat as the RB1.

JT saw over 300 carries this season and will see around the same in 2022. As once stated, touchdowns are the most important in fantasy football, and he saw 80% of his team’s red zone carries. A total of 20 touchdowns is what came out of it including big runs and big plays after the catch.
