Three Teams that Won the 2022 NFL Draft

As there are losers, there are winners in the NFL draft. Which teams improved their chances to compete at a high level in 2022?

1. New York Jets

It is shocking to put the New York Jets in an article about positivity, but they smashed it in the NFL draft making great picks on both sides of the ball. The Jets drafted the best cornerback and arguably best defensive player in Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. Gardner allowed zero touchdowns in his entire collegiate career. The second coming of Revis island might be forming in New York.

Then, the Jets also took Jermaine Johnson II with another first-round pick that they traded up for. Johnson is an FSU product with 12 sacks and 18 tackles for a loss — the most in the ACC.

But wait, there’s more! The Jets also took arguably the best receiver with their second first-round pick — Garrett Wilson. Wilson now can form the Wilson to Wilson connection alongside Elijah Moore to give the Jets a very young, but exciting, QB/WR combination.

Garett Wilson is the receiver the Jets need to take the top off of defenses. He scored 12 touchdowns last season at Ohio State, with six of them coming off vertical routes. Wilson’s 6’0″ and 183lb frame does not worry me at all. Rookies will always get bigger when they change their nature of working out and diets from the college level to the NFL level.

It gets better as the Jets took Breece Hall in the second round. Hall is the best running back in the class, who is drawing comparisons to Jonathan Taylor, the RB1 of dynasty football.

Hall exceeded over 4,675 total yards and 56 total touchdowns. The Jets are setting up Zack Wilson to succeed and be a borderline QB1. Its’ wheels up for the Jets in 2022.

Draft Grade: A

2. Tennessee Titans

Treylon Burks is no A.J. Brown, so the fantasy community can hopefully stop comparing players as soon as they declare for the draft and let them make a name for themselves. The Tennessee Titans traded Brown to the Eagles for the 18th and 101st picks. With the 18th pick, they selected Burks, who will be inserted into the WR1 position in 2022.

Robert Woods is recovering from ACL surgery, Julio Jones is not coming back, and the other top receiver on the roster is Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. It’s safe to say that Burks will be a fantasy weapon from the moment Week 1 kicks off.

Besides the Titans’ defensive pieces, they also grabbed their future franchise quarterback in Malik Willis. Once a projected first-round pick, Willis fell and fell some more in the NFL draft. Eventually, in the third round, the Titans took Willis with the 86th overall pick. Ryan Tannehill is 33 and will be 34 when the 2022 season commences.

Head coach Mike Vrabel has stated that he is looking for a quarterback that is mobile, so it makes all the sense in the world that they took Willis, especially with how he fell in the draft.

The Tennesee Titans might have just drafted the next great QB/WR duo, but only time will tell. Tannehill is under contract through 2023, but the Titans can move on from him after this season. If they do, Willis might sit a year before becoming the full-time starter.

Draft Grade: B

3. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had one of the best drafts. Although A.J. Brown was not drafted, he was acquired on draft day in one of the biggest blockbuster trades of the 2022 off-season. Brown gives Hurts another weapon to showcase he can be a starting quarterback.

Now, with Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert, Jalen Hurts has no excuses to perform at a high level this season with teams having to worry about another receiver and that being one of the best in the NFL in Brown.

When it comes to draft picks, the Eagles got a steal in Georgia product, Jordan Davis. A founding and vital piece in the Bulldogs’ championship team, Davis is a nose tackle who can fill the void of Fletcher Cox if he decides to leave after the 2022 season.

Why is this pick so enticing and so amazing? Davis is not just fast, but fast-fast. He ran a 4.78 40-yard dash — the fastest 40 run by someone who weighs 325lbs or more since 2006!

The Eagles also addressed the center position with Jason Kelce who is 34. His potential replacement is Cameron Jurgens out of Nebraska.

They also addressed their linebacker issue by drafting two of them. One came in the third round as another member of Georgia’s championship defense found themselves landing in Philadelphia. Nakobe Dean was selected in the third round and is considered a steal with how much he fell.

Injuries are a concern, but they can be a concern for any player playing in such a physical game. The Eagles had one of the best drafts in 2022, and it’s to the MOOOON for Jalen Hurts and that offense. This season, Hurts should be one of the first five quarterbacks taking in redraft leagues and a top dynasty asset.
