Seattle Seahawks To Sign Mychal Kendricks: IDP Fantasy Impact

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to sign linebacker Mychal Kendricks to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kendricks, released earlier in the season during training camp by the Cleveland Browns, is facing sentencing to insider trading charges after pleading guilty last week. The linebacker is scheduled to be sentenced in late January and Kendricks could face at least 30 months in federal prison.

The Seahawks travel to Chicago for a Monday Night Football showdown against the Bears and are currently struggling with injuries and inconsistent play at the linebacker position.

Signing Kendricks will add veteran depth to what quickly became a depleted position group for the Seahawks. Kendricks provided the Browns with 51 solo tackles and two sacks last season and the Browns had expected the linebacker to be a key contributor to a new aggressive scheme. The team quickly cut bait on the linebacker after the insider trading charges surfaced.

Another large part of the reason the Seahawks are bringing in Kendricks can be attributed to the struggles of linebacker Shaquem Griffin, who managed only two tackles in the loss Sunday to the Denver Broncos. The Seahawks selected Griffin in the fifth round of the 2018 draft.

Linebacker K.J. Wright is also ruled out for Week 2. Wright already missed the season opener and is expected to be sidelined multiple weeks with a knee injury.

Middle linebacker Bobby Wagner also missed practice Thursday, adding to the team’s defensive issues at linebacker. Right now Wagner is expected play Monday night.
