C.J. Mosley (LB) New York Jets

Injury: Toe Injury
Injury Date: 9/15/2024
Expected Recovery Time: 1-2 weeks
Player(s) to Target: LB Jamien Sherwood

Let’s kick this Week 3 injury report off with a major injury in the first game of the week. The New England Patriots travel to East Rutherford to take on the Jets in a division rivalry game. The Patriots offense is delighted to hear that star Jets LB C.J. Mosley may not be lining up on the other side. He picked up an injury to his big toe last week and is listed as questionable for the game despite not practicing all week.

As discussed in the tweet below, Mosley is dealing with a fairly unique injury. Typically with a “toe injury” designation, we immediately think the player is dealing with a nagging turf toe injury. Instead, it appears Mosley is simply dealing with a bad bruise on his big toe. Now although a better case than turf toe, this does not guarantee Mosley will play. The big toe plays a crucial role in being able to push off the ground when you run or jump. Given he has not practiced at all on a short week, this is still clearly bothering and even if he does play he will be limited.

Look, there is no way to replace a guy who led his team in tackles for three straight seasons. However, if Mosley is out or playing reduced snaps, this opens up a GREAT opportunity for fellow LB Jamien Sherwood. The young player out of Auburn stepped up very nicely last week when Mosley had to exit the game. He led both teams in tackles last week and I expect him to have another good performance against a New England team that wants to run the ball.
