Jer’Zhan Newton – Illinois

Here’s Johnny!!! My top rookie defensive tackle prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. Not only was Jer’Zhan Newton on the Big 10 First Team the past two seasons, but he also won the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 2023. His strengths are that he moves very well and has quick, active hands. The former Illini consistently slips by blockers and causes havoc in the backfield.

He racked up 13 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss in 2022 and 2023. For anybody in 16+ team leagues that require defensive tackles, I think he’s a must-target. That is even more so if your scoring emphasizes big plays. I’m looking to draft him after Payton Wilson, Dallas Turner, and Laiatu Latu are off the board. That’s how strongly I feel about Newton’s IDP value.
