Redraft ADP For Upcoming Redraft Leagues

Now that we are in September, redraft leagues will continue to pick up. Here are players to wait on and players I should have waited on.

I’m going to be reviewing a redraft league I just finished in the IDP Invitational. One of the key things I will be looking at is my overall team compared to the redraft ADP from the IDP Invitational. I will look at where I found value and where I could’ve waited on some players.

Before I do that, let me give you some context behind IDP Guys Invitational. This is a league that is going into its second year. The scoring format mirrors the Scott Fish Bowl, but with the addition of IDP players. Both of these leagues are designed to bring people together to play fantasy football and, most importantly, bring awareness to various different charities.

If you’re interested in joining one or both of these leagues next season, please check out SFB12 and IDP Invitational.

The scoring for the IDP Invitational is standard scoring on offense and defense, except for the tight end and cornerback positions. Tight ends get one point per reception and first downs by receptions. Cornerbacks get 2.5 points per tackle and passes defended compared to the .5 point and 2 points respectively. Let’s dive into this!!

A couple of things to note, the column “Drafted Team” is the team I drafted in the IDP Invitational and the “ADP Team” is the team I would’ve drafted based on ADP from the seventh spot.

Draft Strategy

Looking at the scoring for the IDP Guys Invitational, I knew I could wait on a few positions — WR, DT, & CB. My goal was to take the best player available, especially early on. I chose to wait on quarterback and was able to land Derrick Henry and Aaron Jones with my first two picks. With my third pick, I was able to land Mark Andrews. Thank you, Kyle Pitts hype!

With the recent rash of injuries to the Baltimore Ravens wide receivers and starting running back, I’m looking for Andrews to be a target hog.

Even though I knew I was going to wait on wide receiver, I still wanted to have a WR1, so I grabbed Keenan Allen in the fourth round. Next, I shifted my focus to linebacker. I stuck with my goal and drafted Darius Leonard and Devin White with picks five and six. These two are the top two players — in my opinion — at this position, and I was pleased to be able to grab them.

When it came to wide receivers, I was targeting Mecole Hardman and Russell Gage. I thought both of these guys had great potential to produce based on their quarterbacks and the type of passing offenses they were going to be involved in.

Last season, per NFL.com, the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons threw the ball the third and fourth most and I don’t see that changing in 2021. You can take a look at the rest of my team and see how my draft went.

Draft Value vs Reaching

Here, I’ll take a look at some players I drafted later than the IDP Invitational ADP and players I took earlier than the ADP, who I probably could’ve waited on.

Looking at my QB2, Daniel Jones, I could’ve waited a little longer than I did. I selected Jones in the 10th round, which was two rounds earlier than his ADP.  I picked Jones because of his dual-threat ability. This season, that is huge for him career-wise. So I’m banking on him balling out to show that he’s a starting quarterback in the NFL long term. Jones also has a WR1 in Kenny Golladay and is getting his RB1, Saquon Barkley, back.

Much like my QB2, the same could be said for my second safety and fellow New York Giant Jabrill Peppers. I selected him in round 12, which was two rounds earlier than his ADP. I picked Peppers (ba dum tss) because he tends to play in the box more and I thought he would get more tackles, given some of the skill players the Giants will be facing this season.

The one player I was able to get a round later than his ADP was Arizona Cardinals linebacker, Isaiah Simmons. I picked him in round 18. The Cardinals are going with a youth movement at linebacker this season and I am banking on a huge season from Simmons. He also plays in the toughest division in football, which should make those games very competitive.

Good Luck in your pursuit of that fantasy football trophy!!
