There are a handful of quarterbacks who can single-handedly win your season. Those that are rushing threats, as well as dominate in the air are in a tier of their own. With passing becoming so prevalent in football, even the top pocket passers have strong value in fantasy football.

Josh AllenBuffalo Bills
Jalen HurtsPhiladelphia Eagles
Lamar JacksonBaltimore Ravens

Value: Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts has cemented himself as a top 3 fantasy quarterback the last couple of years and for good reason. He has elite receiving options on the outside, the backfield, and a safety blanket in his tight end. On top of the elite receivers like AJ Brown or Devonta Smith, Hurts is a huge threat on the ground. He has averaged 716 yards on the ground and has scored double-digit touchdowns as well, breaking a quarterback record last season with 15. Sure, the retirement of Jason Kelce will affect the cohesion at the offensive line, but PFF ranks the Eagles as having the second-best offensive line coming into 2024. His value at QB3 allows him to fall a bit later in redraft formats with single quarterback play which allows you to draft talent at the receiver or running back position then grabbing Hurts.

Bust: Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Now it is hard to put ‘Bust’ and Josh Allen in the same category. With that said, among the top tier of quarterbacks, Allen has the potential to have a ‘bust’ season due to the receiver room completely changing. No more Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, in comes veteran Curtis Samuel and rookie Keon Coleman. Now understand, the bust potential is based off the receivers struggling to get acclimated to the offense and rapport with Josh Allen as well as when you draft him. Where you draft the best quarterback in fantasy football can play a factor in how your season may finish if you miss out of other key positions.

Patrick MahomesKansas City Chiefs
Anthony RichardsonIndianapolis Colts
CJ StroudHouston Texans
Dak PrescottDallas Cowboys
Jow BurrowCinncinati Bengals
Jared GoffDetroit Lions

Value: Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Jared Goff continues to fall in ADP in many mock drafts. I know he doesn’t have the flashy upside of Anthony Richardson or the prestige of Patrick Mahomes, but Goff has been great the last couple of years. Last season he finished as QB7 and the year before was QB10, yet he is being treated as QB12 or even higher at times. The addition of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery was huge as well as having a premier receiver in St. Brown only helps. Goff has averaged around 30 touchdowns a season the last two years as well as over 4,400 passing yards. Where he is falling, he has the best upside.

Bust: Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts

I know the upside and flashed Richardson has puts him high on a lot of folks’ draft lists. He is currently being treated as QB6 coming into 2024 because of the three games he was able to play last season. For great reason, he averaged 24 points a game which a lot came from scoring on the ground. His rushing ability and having players like Michael Pittman Jr and rookie AD Mitchell give hope for a strong 2024. Where I have my concerns is the sustainability of scoring every week on the ground. In the air, he still needs development and of course, having a shoulder injury is something to keep an eye on. Having a healthy Jonathon Taylor also affects Richardson’s red zone threat so for me, the ‘bust’ potential is too high.

Sleeper: Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Currently, Burrow is coming into 2024 as QB7 and I have him at QB8. Now the sleeper title falls perfectly for Burrow because of the injury concerns and disgruntled Higgins. These are valid concerns to have, now if Burrow has a healthy season and Higgins plays lights out for his big contract for 2025, Burrow easily becomes a top tier quarterback this season. When healthy, he averaged 35 passing touchdowns and over 4,500 passing yards, He is the Bengals’ offense coming into 2024 and Burrow has a lot to prove, not only to his team but also for himself. I love where he is falling in drafts and could be a steal.

Kyler MurrayArizona Cardinals
Brock PurdySan Francisco 49ers
Matthew StaffordLos Angeles Rams
Trevor LawrenceJacksonville Jaguars
Tua TagovailoaMiami Dolphins

Value: Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

It’s crazy how everyone forgets how much of an impact Murray had in fantasy football when healthy. Of course, the best player is the one that is available and injuries the last two years have been tough for Murray. Currently where he is falling in rankings and mock drafts put him as such a value pick. If Murray plays a full season, you get a top rushing threat at quarterback where Murray averaged just under 600 yards on the ground and threw for over 3,700 yards a season. Add an elite rookie prospect in Marvin Harrison Jr and another year with Michael Wilson and Trey McBride and Murray has elite talent all around him to be successful.

Bust: Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

Brock Purdy falling into the bust category isn’t all that surprising when he has only played one season. Now coming off finishing as QB6 last season does make the bust title a bit harder for some to swallow. Purdy played out of his mind last season with 4,200 yards passing and 31 touchdowns. The concern I have for him is defenses get a full season to learn more and more of his gameplay as well as his receivers may become a weakness. Brandon Aiyuk wants to be traded, Deebo Samuel has injury concerns and rookie Ricky Pearsall will need time to learn the offense.

Sleeper: Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

I love where Stafford is falling in drafts, currently falling around QB19 in mock drafts. Stafford did miss some time last season but still finished as QB15 and that was also without Cooper Kupp playing all season. A healthy Stafford and Kupp, plus sophomore season Nacua should allow Stafford to be a potential top-ten fantasy quarterback. If you’re someone who waits to draft their quarterback while drafting premier positions, Stafford could be the sleeper for you.

Aaron RodgersNew York Jets
Jayden DanielsWashington Commanders
Caleb WilliamsChicago Bears
Justin HerbertLos Angeles Chargers
Baker MayfieldTampa Bay Buccaneers
Deshaun WatsonCleveland Browns
Geno SmithSeattle Seahawks
Derek CarrNew Orleans Saints

Value: Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

I have seen Jayden Daniels higher on some ranking lists out there, I have him a bit lower due to concerns of a brand-new offense for everyone with Kingsbury as well as the overhaul of a new coaching staff for Washington. Why I do believe his value is strong is due to the fact that his rushing ability paired with Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson will help in the passing game. When Kingsbury had a rushing threat at quarterback in Kyler Murray, he finished QB6 or better. That should easily allow Daniels to translate into having a successful rookie season.

Bust: Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith has only had one great season which was in 2022 where he finished as QB5. Last season he was drafted higher than normal in hopes he could possibly repeat or get close. Having receivers such as DK Metcalf and rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba got everyone excited, unfortunately, it didn’t pan out that way and Geno finished as QB19. Now comes in a new coaching staff and a team that could focus on the run with Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet could hinder Geno’s upside this season.

Sleeper: Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

This could be the sleeper of the year for the quarterback position. Justin Herbert is being treated as if he isn’t a top talent at the position. Lots of concerns going into the 2024 season, new coaching staff that has expressed the desire to be a dominate running team as well as new receiving options for Herbert. No longer does he have Keenan Allen or Mike Williams, in 2024 he will have receivers like Josh Palmer, Quentin Johnston, and newly drafted Ladd McConkey. Herbert’s talent could overcome the changes and instead of being a bottom 15 quarterback, he could finish top ten like his early seasons.
