Which rookies were the top scorers for Week 6? Check out the IDP Rookie Recap to see who they are and the impact that they had this week.
Each week I will do a recap of the previous week’s top-scoring IDP rookies. The scoring for the rookies is based on the IDP Nation Listener League 2 scoring. I’ll break down the tier 1 rookies (top 12 scoring rookies) and what their impact could have on your fantasy team’s rosters. From stud rookies to the one-hit wonders, I will give you everything you need to know about the rookies you drafted. There were some new names on the list this week, so let’s take a look at the top-performing rookies from week 6.
Keith Taylor, CB, Carolina Panthers
This past week’s top-scoring IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is Keith Taylor of the Carolina Panthers. He makes his first appearance on the list this season with 39.5 fantasy points scored (FPTS) in week 6, which is the most by an IDP rookie this season. Last week versus the Minnesota Vikings, Taylor recorded 10 tackles, all solos, one forced fumble, and three PBUs. While he didn’t start the game, he did play 65 of the defensive snaps (73%).
Fantasy managers started him in 54% of MFL.com leagues last week and I see Taylor as a very good streaming option going forward. Not only has Taylor’s defensive snaps been trending up, so has his special teams snaps. With the loss of fellow rookie teammate Jaycee Horn for the season, the Panthers need Taylor to step up and play a big role. Definitely worth a flyer if you need help at the cornerback position.
Nate Hobbs, CB, Las Vegas Raiders
The next top-scoring IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs. This makes the second appearance that Hobbs has made the list and this week he comes in at #2. He scored 22.8 fantasy points last week versus the Denver Broncos, which is a new season-high for him. Hobbs played 64 of the defensive snaps (79%) and registered 11 tackles, with six being solos.
In week two Hobbs made this list and was started unless than 1% of MFL.com leagues, but last week he was started in 62%. That’s quite the jump, but it shows you what a good performance will do to a player’s fantasy stock. For the season Hobbs has totaled 31 tackles, 20 being solos, and one PBU. Hobbs hasn’t started the last two games but has been playing 75% of the defensive snaps and 38% of the special teams snaps this season. The number of snaps he receives alone makes him worth a roster spot.
Elijah Molden, CB, Tennessee Titans
Up next on IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is Tennessee Titans cornerback Elijah Molden, who makes his first appearance on this list. With the Titans secondary severely depleted, Molden made his first NFL start. He played 72 of the defensive snaps (94%) and recorded nine tackles, six solos, and one TFL. Molden scored 22.3 fantasy points for the week
Fantasy managers started Molden in 54% of MFL.com leagues last week and that number will continue to rise. As I mentioned the Titans are super thin at cornerback, so Molden will keep receiving starting reps until they get some players healthy. Even then he may still stay as a starter if he can keep producing big numbers. Molden is one rookie I am or have picked up everywhere I can.
Jerry Jacobs, CB, Detroit Lions
The next IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is another first-timer in Jerry Jacobs of the Detroit Lions. After playing just 21 total defensive snaps through the first four games, Jacobs has earned back-to-back starts for the Lions. Last week he played 67 of the defensive snaps (93%) and had his best game to date. Jacobs tallied six tackles, five being solos, and one PBU, which would result in 21.1 fantasy points for the week.
Jacobs was started in 66% of MFL.com leagues last week by fantasy managers and with the Lions losing their star CB Jeff Okudah at the start of the season, there is a big opportunity for Jacobs to showcase his talents. In his two starts, Jacobs has registered nine tackles, eight being solos, two PBUs, and one forced fumble. If you’re looking for some cheap taxi squad options that can start on your main roster, then Jacobs is one to keep an eye on.
Robert Rochell, CB, Los Angeles Rams
The next on IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap, Robert Rochell of the Los Angeles Rams, is the fifth straight cornerback at the top of this list. Rochell is making his first appearance on this weekly list, as he scored 19.3 fantasy points last week. He played 71 of the defensive snaps (95%) versus the New York Giants and produced five tackles, four were solos, one interception, and one PBU. This was Rochell’s second start of the season and he’ll get more if he can continue with the top-end play.
Fantasy managers started Rochell in 57% of MFL.com leagues last week. Rochell was a Div-II stud at Central Arkansas and he was a draft-day gem, who has transitioned to the NFL very well. This is a player that I am stashing on my taxi squads everywhere I can. Rochell is another solid streaming option for your fantasy rosters.
Nick Bolton, LB, Kansas City Chiefs
After five consecutive cornerbacks to begin my IDP rookie recap for this week, we finally get a player at another position. Coming in at number six this week is linebacker Nick Bolton of the Kansas City Chiefs. Bolton is becoming a regular on this list as this makes his fourth appearance of the season. He scored 18.5 fantasy points last week versus the Washington Football Team, as he played 39 of the defensive snaps (66%) while accumulating nine tackles, eight were solos and one TFL.
On the season has made six starts, played 279 of the defensive snaps (71%), recorded forty tackles, thirty being solo, and five TFLs. Bolton has had at least seven or more tackles in four of the six games he’s played and his missed tackle rate is a terrific 2.4%. Fantasy managers started him 78% of MFL.com leagues last week, which I feel is too low. For a rookie, he’s as good of a plug-and-play option as you’ll find.
Derrick Barnes, LB, Detroit Lions
After having a run of cornerbacks to begin this week’s IDP rookie recap, we now have a run at linebacker. Coming in at number seven this week is Detroit Lions linebacker, Derrick Barnes. He is the second Detroit Lions player on the list this week and will likely be a regular from here on out. Barnes scored 17 fantasy points last week on 32 defensive snaps played (44%) last week versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
Barnes making his third start, recorded nine tackles, six of them solo, and one PBU. Barnes was one of my pre-draft favorites and with Jamie Collins out the picture now, he’s getting his shot to showcase his talent. On the season Barnes has registered 26 tackles, 18 solos, one TFL, and one PBU. Fantasy managers only started him 47% of MFL.com fantasy leagues last week. That’s way too low for a starting linebacker on a bad team. He’s one of the few rookies I suggest you acquire now while his price is still low.
Marco Wilson, CB, Arizona Cardinals
The next IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap is cornerback Marco Wilson of the Arizona Cardinals. Wilson is making his third appearance on this list this season and has been a reliable piece for the Cardinals so far. He has started and played in five of the six games this season while playing 261 total defensive snaps (82%). In those five games, Wilson has recorded 23 tackles, 20 being solos, two PBUs, and one forced fumble.
Wilson scored 16.8 fantasy points last week, in five tackle, all solos, and one PBU performance versus the Cleveland Browns. Fantasy managers are buying into the youngster as his start percentage has gradually trended up to last week’s best of 54%. I would like to see him lower his missed tackle rate (11.5%) but that’s common for rookies as they learn the pro game. As long as Arizona keeps winning, expect Wilson to keep producing as teams will have to throw more when playing from behind.
Trevon Moehrig, FS, Las Vegas Raiders
The ninth IDP fantasy rookie on my IDP rookie recap for this week is our first safety of the week, Trevon Moehrig of the Las Vegas Raiders. This is the second appearance for Moehrig, both coming in the last three weeks. He has started every game this season and has played 100% of the defensive snaps in all but one game. Last week he played 81 defensive snaps, tallying three tackles, two solos, one interception, and two PBUs, which would equal 16.3 fantasy points.
Moehrig is a perfect compliment at free safety to teammate strong safety Jonathan Abram. These two youngsters will have the opportunity to be an impact duo for a long time. He plays aggressively and is a ballhawk on the back end of that defense, but he has to cut down that 17.4% missed tackle rate. Again that’s normal for rookies but he has to correct that. Fantasy managers started Moehrig in just 37% of MFL.com fantasy leagues last week.
Jamin Davis, LB, Washington Football Team
Coming in at number ten on my IDP rookie recap for this week is linebacker Jamin Davis of the Washington Football Team. Many expected this to come a lot sooner, but this is the first appearance for Davis on this list. He scored 16 fantasy points last week while playing 46 defensive snaps (56%) and producing 11 tackles, with five being solos. To this point, he’s had mixed results but week 6 versus the Kansas City Chiefs was his breakout performance.
Fantasy managers have been waiting on this type of game from him but have pumped the breaks on him as a starter as he was started in just 47% of MFL.com leagues last week. After this breakout game by Davis, I expect that number will increase quickly going forward. Keep in mind that his teammate Cole Holcomb has been the star of the defense so far this season, but that’s not a bad thing for Davis, as it allows him to play freely without any pressure to carry defense. This is only the beginning for Davis, so get him in your lineups.
Jevon Holland, S, Miami Dolphins
We’re near the end of my IDP rookie recap and at number 11 for this week is safety Jevon Holland of the Miami Dolphins. This makes Hollands third appearance on the list and second in back-to-back weeks. He scored 15.5 fantasy points last week versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in an across-the-pond matchup. Holland played 66 of the defensive snaps (100%) and registered six tackles, four solos, and one PBU.
On the season he has recorded 21 tackles, 15 solos, one PBU, and one fumble recovery. While he is a rookie, Holland is one of the Dolphins’ better players on defense. Fantasy managers started him 37% of MFL.com leagues last week which is way up from the 14% the week before. This was a solid draft class at the safety position and Holland is right at the top.
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, OLB, Cleveland Browns
The final player on this week’s IDP rookie recap is outside linebacker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of the Cleveland Browns. JOK is making his second appearance on this list and is putting together quite the season. He recorded eight tackles, five being solos, one PBU, on 64 defensive snaps played (85%), which would equate to 15 fantasy points for the week. On the season JOK has tallied 29 tackles, 20 solos, one TFL, ½ a sack, one forced fumble, and four PBUs.
Fantasy managers haven’t bought into JOK as a starter just yet, as he was started in a surprisingly low 16% of MFL.com leagues last week. He’s only going to get better and the numbers support that, with 29 combined pressures and four PBUs. That shows he’s active both as a pass rusher and when dropping in coverage. He does, however, have to reduce his missed tackle rate of 19.4% (seven missed tackles). No need to stress as he’ll be just fine and be one of the best defenders in this draft class.
Summary
This concludes the rookie recap for this week! I’ll be back next week with week two results, as we begin to see these rookies and others get more acclimated to the league. With that, I expect the fantasy points scored (FPTS) to begin to climb up. Will next week be the same names or will there be a new group of faces on the list? Either way, I’ll be here to break it all down for you and give you all the information you need to make the right decisions for your fantasy teams.
