Taking a look at the NFL Week 10 from a IDP perspective; notes on what our writer @Orangeman3142 saw this weekend.

This is a continuation of our weekly article series that breaks down what we saw this week in IDP fantasy football. What happened and why, what we got right and what we got wrong and more importantly how to move forward and get better next week. We look at possible waivers and trends, snap counts and issues that affect production for your IDP team. Part two will cover the next three games of week Ten. Keep an eye out for part three and make sure you read part one from yesterday. Let’s get into it.

Atlanta Falcons @ Cleveland Browns

Falcons: Just when we all thought we had the Falcons linebacker situation figured out we get this weeks results, the only saving grace here is that Deion Jones (LB) has been designated for return off of the IR and should be back next week or the week after and when that happens we can forget this whole mess as things settle down into a pattern. If for some reason someone in your league didn’t have the patience to hold onto Jones for this long by all means go get him off the waiver wire and get ready, he should be ready to go soon enough.

De’Vondre Campbell (LB) led the way this week with 8 combined tackles on 81% of snaps but that won’t matter when Jones returns, whole new ballgame at that point. Foye Oluokon (LB) had only 3 combined tackles playing 85% of snaps this week and that won’t matter soon either. Duke Riley (LB) had 4 combined tackles on 36% of snaps and guess what? That won’t matter soon either. Drop all these fools and grab Jones if you can.

DaMontae Kazee (S) had a nice game with 3 combined tackles, 1 PD and 1 INT on 100% of snaps, the pick definitely saved his day but I’m not complaining as someone who had to start him in multiple places with the byes this week. Grady Jarrett (DT) had a stinker with 3 combined tackles on 81% of snaps but will be fine, nature of the position and all that. No one else did anything of note.

Browns: With last weeks news that Christian Kirksey (LB) was injured and out for the year the timing of this weeks return of Joe Schobert (LB) couldn’t have been better. He did great with 7 combined tackles on 68% of snaps and will only get better as he knocks the last month or so of rust off him. The benefactor of both the Kirksey injury now and the Schobert injury then has been Jamie Collins (LB) who led the Browns in IDP production this week with 9 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 95% of snaps played this week.

Larry Ogunjobi (DT) had a serviceable game this week with 4 combined tackles and 0.5 sacks on 59% of snaps. While he started the year at a ridiculous pace he has certainly slowed down but has put together a couple weeks in a row of decent production.

Damarious Randal (S) had a bit of a down game with 3 solo tackles and 1 TFL on 99% of snaps, he’s usually far more productive than this but was injured recently and may still be a bit banged up, he should be fine. Denzel Ward (CB) also is returning from injury and had 2 solo tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps in a ideal matchup for him, I would expect more but will give him the benefit of the doubt since he may be rusty and still slightly banged up as well. Myles Garrett (DE) only had 1 solo tackle on 67% of snaps but should be fine, nature of the position and whatnot.

New England Patriots @ Tennessee Titans

Patriots: Although the Pats IDP production as a whole is very inconsistent there have been a few guys over the course of this season who have established some reliability in my eyes. Kyle Van Noy (LB) is one of them and led the Pats in production this week with 13 combined tackles on 88% of snaps this week. He’s been a tier two guy overall and is getting to the point where he is startable every week if you expect that tier of production and aren’t disappointed if that’s all you end up with.

Patrick Chung (S) had been one of those guys lately but only had 4 combined tackles on 94% of snaps this week. That’s my issue with the Patriots IDP players, the minute you think you have them nailed down and can rely on one of them something like this happens, I was awfully close to starting Chung in a league or two this week, thank God I remembered my own advice about Patriots IDP players and didn’t.

Trey Flowers (DE) is really the only one I feel completely confident starting every week, he had a bit of a down week with 4 combined tackles on 94% of snaps but that’s a nature of the beast thing not a “Belichick is a genius” thing so it’s all good, he’ll be fine. Devin McCourty (S) had a stinker as well with 4 solo tackles on 95% of snaps but hasn’t been anywhere close to last years outstanding production in this years campaign.

Titans: Despite the complete domination the Titans had over the Pats for the majority of this game this New England offense is good enough that even when they aren’t scoring enough points to win they run enough plays and get enough first downs to keep drives going that they are almost always an ideal matchup for any teams IDP purposes. Wesley Woodyard (LB) led the way with 10 combined tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 TFL on 88% of snaps this week. The rust is gone, the playing time is back and Mr. Woodyard is totally back to his old form from earlier this season. He is a locked in tier one stud with auto start written all over him.

Unfortunately it’s Jayon Brown (LB) who suffers most from his return to form, he recorded 4 combined tackles and 0.5 sacks on 80% of snaps this week and his production has taken a nose dive since Woodyard got back to action. I’d find a backup plan if he was part of your weekly lineups.

Both safeties are IDP relevant and both had serviceable games today with Kenny Vaccaro (S) recording 5 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 100% of snaps while Kevin Byard (S) had 4 combined tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps this week. Vaccaro has been steady with about four or five combined tackles a week when he plays while Byard is very boom or bust, it’s worth playing him though since his boom can be ridiculous and win you a matchup.

Jurell Casey (DT) had a decent game with 4 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 74% of snaps and remains a nice tier two option at defensive tackle. Out of all the talented IDP corners on this team it was Logan Ryan (CB), the one most likely NOT owned or played by anyone who had the best day with 6 combined tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL and 1 PD on 92% of snaps. I’d still rather have Adoree Jackson (CB) who had 3 solo tackles and 2 PD on 97% of snaps or Malcolm Butler (CB) who had 4 combined tackles on 77% of snaps this week, those two are far more consistent.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts

Jags: It was the dynamic duo once again for the Jags this week, these two have been on fire the past month I feel like I see their names at the top of the Jacksonville box score every week lately. Telvin Smith (LB) led the way with 8 combined tackles, 1 PD and 1 INT on 100% of snaps, he’s a tier one stud and weekly auto start, next please. Calais Campbell (DE) has recovered from his slow start to the season and has been on a tear lately, this week he had 5 solo tackles and 2 TFL on 85% of snaps, not the usual numbers for a defensive tackle but a solid score nonetheless. Jalen Ramsey (CB) took advantage of an ideal matchup against a pass happy team and recorded 5 solo tackles on 96% of snaps in a solid game for the corner.

Barry Church (S) had a serviceable day with 5 combined tackles on 95% of snaps and remains an end of tier two option if you’re in a deeper league or need a spot start. Myles Jack (LB) continues to disappoint with only 3 solo tackles on 100% of snaps this week, he’s been nothing like we thought he would be this season and it’s really too bad, he had better numbers than this at SLB last season. The move to middle linebacker didn’t help his production at all and crazily enough seems to be hurting it overall. Time to move on and find a backup plan. Yannick Ngakoue (DE) had a quiet game with 2 combined tackles on 76% of snaps but will be fine, you can’t expect anything more than spotty end of tier two production from him and you’ll be fine.

Colts: For once it wasn’t the incredible Darius Leonard (LB) at the top of the Colts box score this week, he still had 8 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 99% of snaps which is another tier one performance from him, he continues to be awesome and THE auto start. It was his counterpart, the equally reliable and consistent but less productive Anthony Walker (LB) who stole the show this week with 10 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 59% of snaps, he’s quietly been a consistent tier two option all season.

It was also nice to see a healthy Clayton Geathers (S) return to form this week with 10 combined tackles on 99% of snaps. It would seem he’s over his neck injury and I’ve seen him on many a waiver wire, if he’s back to 100% healthy you should definitely grab him if you need safety help, he was lights out before that neck injury against the Pats several weeks back.

Jabaal Sheard (DE) had himself a nice game as well with 4 solo tackles, 2 TFL and 1 PD on 74% of snaps, I played him as a spot start due to byes this week and was happy to do so. He’s playable weekly in deeper leagues but best used as I did this week, short term.

Both Denico Autry (DT) and Margus Hunt (DE, DT) had two combined tackles a piece while Autry played 67% of snaps and Hunt was in for 67% of snaps this week, both have really cooled off since earlier this season and at this point I’m hesitant to play either. There were other notable IDP stat lines for this game for Indy but I don’t care about those people, they’re spotty, unreliable and inconsistent so I won’t waste my time or yours discussing them.
