Taking a look at the NFL Week 10 from a IDP perspective; notes on what our writer @Orangeman3142 saw this weekend.

This is a continuation of our weekly article series that breaks down what we saw this week in IDP fantasy football. What happened and why, what we got right and what we got wrong and more importantly how to move forward and get better next week. We look at possible waivers and trends, snap counts and issues that affect production for your IDP team. Part three will cover the next four games of week Ten. Keep an eye out for part four and make sure you read parts one and two from earlier this week. Let’s get into it.

Arizona Cardinals @ Kansas City Chiefs

Cardinals: The Cardinals put up a decent fight in this game but Tyreek Hill (WR) and company were too much to handle when push came to shove. For Arizona’s IDP production it was Bene Benwikere (CB) leading the way with 8 combined tackles, he’s a no name and this is flash in the pan so I won’t waste either of our time with anything more on him.

Antoine Bethea (S) was next with 5 solo tackles on 100% of snaps this week, he’s been an end of tier one guy all season and had a serviceable game this week. Tre Boston (S) was back playing this week after injury but had a quiet game with just 4 combined tackles on 95% of snaps, this team was crushed by the big play and their offense played well enough that all these IDP studs didn’t get their normal amount of time on the field so in general the Cardinals IDP production this week was awful.

Patrick Peterson (CB) took advantage of a nice matchup with 4 solo tackles playing 100% of snaps, he’s a safe play against teams like this that pass a lot. Chandler Jones (DE) had a massive day with 3 solo tackles, 2 sacks and 2 TFL on 85% of snaps and continues to be a tier one option.

Robert Nkemdiche (DT) was injured and out and the other usual suspects, Baker, Bynes and Markus Golden (DE) all had sub par games in an ideal matchup which doesn’t make a ton of sense. They should all be fine though every team has at least one of these games a year, continue to start the “Killer B’s” with confidence.

Chiefs: Unfortunately Anthony Hitchens (LB) was listed as “active” this week but didn’t play a snap, that hurt a lot of people but allowed Reggie Ragland (LB) to have a nice game with 7 combined tackles playing only 53% of snaps this week. He’s been an OK spot start but with that kind of playing time you can’t rely on him weekly.

Kendall Fuller (CB) had yet another solid game with 5 combined tackles on 100% of snaps played and remains my favorite IDP corner by a long shot. Dee Ford (LB, EDGE) had a solid game due to sack production but plays a position I would never start unless it was for a specific EDGE or OLB slot so I’m not going to cover him, if you want to make that choice more power to you but I never start sack dependent players in linebacker slots.

Chris Jones (DE) had a nice game especially if you used him as a spot start for a bye week recording 3 combined tackles, 2 sacks, 1 TFL and 2 PD on 67% of snaps this week. He remains a nice short term option and has been good enough to start weekly in deeper leagues where more than two defensive ends are needed.

Daniel Sorensen (S) had a decent game with 6 combined tackles on only 44% of snaps but that playing time is far too low for consistency, Ron Parker (S) had 2 solo tackles, 1 sack and 1 TFL on 100% of snaps but hasn’t been more than an end of tier two spotty safety option this year, the only safety I’m interested in on the Chiefs hasn’t played yet this season (Eric Berry).

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets

Bills: It was the guys you expect to see atop the Bills box score this week. Tremaine Edmunds (LB) led the way with 8 combined tackles on 95% of snaps and remains a mid tier one guy who’s an auto start for me. He is as promised. Jordan Poyer (S) got out of his slump and had 6 combined tackles, 1 sack and 1 TFL on 96% of snaps this week helping him to climb out of that tier two hole he’s been in most of this year, he’s capable of this every week let’s hope we start seeing it.

Matt Milano (LB) has been spotty this year but can definitely put up some solid weeks, this was one of them with 6 combined tackles, 1 PD and 1 INT on 79% of snaps this week. It’s a little worrying seeing him drop back to 79% of snaps after being at 100% the past few so I’ll keep an eye on it, he’s still best used as a dynasty project or linebacker two or three in deeper leagues.

Jerry Hughes (DE) had a nice week with 4 combined tackles, 1 sack, 2.5 TFL and 1 PD on 68% of snaps and remains a nice spot start or playable weekly in deeper leagues. With Trent Murphy (DE) injured and out this week Shaq Lawson (DE) got another shot at solid playing time and took advantage with 3 combined tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL and 1 PD on 73% of snaps this week.

He’s a nice option if Murphy continues to be inactive due to injury, Lawson is probably available on the majority of waiver wires so have a look at Murphys status later this week and if it doesn’t look good feel free to pull the trigger on Lawson if you need defensive end help this week.

Jets: Since week two Avery Williamson (LB) has been on fire, he went off again this week with 11 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 100% of snaps this week and remains a locked in tier one stud. Darron Lee (LB) his inside linebacker counterpart also went nuts with 11 combined tackles as well playing on 100% of snaps as well. Lee has been more spotty overall but is playable weekly as a great linebacker three or spotty linebacker two in deeper leagues.

Marcus Maye (S) had a little better week this week with 5 combined tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps and is a nice spot start or short term option for safety help, he had unbelievable numbers earlier in the year but has come back to earth, this is more of what I would expect from him weekly with as many talented mouths to feed around him as there are.

Jamal Adams (S) had a serviceable game with 4 combined tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 TFL and 1 PD on 100% of snaps, this was a “down week” for the awesome producer and was still pretty solid. He’s been great all year.

Leonard Williams (DE) had only 2 combined tackles on 71% of snaps and has been nothing more than a spotty spot start and we’re rapidly closing in on the end of bye weeks and besides injuries not needing to have to think about this guy anymore unless you are truly desperate for defensive end help.

Washington Redskins @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Skins: It was another week of monster production for Mason Foster (LB) the now leader of the Skins IDP production without any challengers. Well maybe Ha Ha Clinton Dix (S), who had 8 solo tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps and is back to being a tier one guy on his new team. Foster though is a monster, and had 10 combined tackles this week playing 100% of snaps.

He’s been a quiet tier one guy this season and has thoroughly replaced and supplanted Zach Brown (LB) who had a rare good week for this season with 9 combined tackles and 2 TFL playing only 75% of snaps. That’s really been the problem this year, he hasn’t had the playing time to produce like he did last season and years past, and as far as I can remember this is only his second or third really good game this season. This was a top five linebacker for IDP purposes for YEARS before this season, it really sucks how far he’s fallen.

Ryan Kerrigan (LB, EDGE) stunk up the joint with only 2 combined tackles on 64% of snaps, I really hope no one threw him into a linebacker slot this week hoping for sack-dependent production cause this is what happens the majority of the time. The other unsettling stat line from the Skins this week was from DJ Swearinger (S) who had only 2 combined tackles and 2 PD on 100% of snaps this week, the acquisition of Clinton-Dix seems to have put a nail in the coffin of Swearingers production as he has been terrible since the trade while Dix is producing better than he did all year previously on the Packers, it may be time to move on from Swearinger before fantasy playoffs where a performance like this could spell the end for your title hopes.

Bucs: While most of us in the IDP community thought the clear winner, if there is such a thing, from the Kwon Alexander (LB) injury would be LaVonte David (LB) it seems to me that it’s been Justin Evans (S) so far who has been on a tear since the defense has been called upon to step it up in Alexanders absence.

Evans had 9 combined tackles on 84% of snaps this week making it seven out of eight games this year he’s recorded a tier one performance and four monster games in a row more recently. David was solid as well recording 7 solo tackles on 90% of snaps but let’s be real here unless you have a roster touched by God he’s an auto start for you every week so not much I’ll say either way is going to change that, nor should it.

Adarius Taylor (LB), who has been Alexanders direct replacement, has been up and down since taking over the job. He had 4 combined tackles and 2 TFL on 64% of snaps this week. He’t not getting the playing time Alexander got, he’s not as good as Kwon was and it’s only a matter of time before Kendal Beckwith (LB) takes over that job, so for me personally I’m looking at the Chargers linebackers situation and making a move there while I wait for Beckwith to play then I’ll start him, he did pretty decent in relief of Alexander last season from what I remember.

Jordan Whitehead (S) had 4 combined tackles this week playing only 57% of snaps so as much as the IDP community wanted him to be a thing it doesn’t look like it will happen with the playing time I’ve seen him get since he got his shot.

Jason Pierre Paul (DE) had a stinker but has been on fire the past month or so he was bound to come back to earth and he’ll be fine. Gerald McCoy (DT) had a serviceable game with 1 solo tackle and 1 sack on 74% of snaps, he remains a decent tier two defensive tackle option.

Brent Grimes (CB) has been pretty good lately and had an OK game with 3 solo tackles on 98% of snaps in a totally NOT ideal matchup at all. He’ll be a much better option against teams that can pass the ball, which is definitely NOT the Skins.

LA Chargers @ Oakland Raiders

Chargers: The biggest news from the Chargers IDP this week was obviously the news that Denzel Perryman (LB) got injured and is out for the season. The immediate winners from this are Jatavis Brown (LB), who had 11 combined tackles playing 97% of snaps this week and was a good option after Kyzir White (S, LB) went onto IR but is now an even better option with the loss of Perryman, I’ve picked him up myself in a couple of my all IDP leagues.

Hayes Pullard (LB), who had 3 solo tackles and 1 TFL on only 25% of snaps this week may be in for a massive increase in snaps as well with the injury, he may be worth an add in case that happens. Adrian Phillips (S) has been really solid since White went down and should probably see an increase in production as well, he recorded 9 combined tackles and 1 PD on 75% of snaps this week., he could see an increase in playing time as well.

Derwin James (S) has been a solid tier one guy all season and had another solid week with 9 combined tackles and 1 PD playing 100% of snaps and is a weekly auto start end of story. Jahleel Addae (S) recorded 6 combined tackles playing 100% of snaps and has been part of the three safety set the Chargers have been using a lot recently and we’ll probably see more of with the Perryman injury as well.

Melvin Ingram (DE) is solid gold against the Raiders and had 4 combined tackles and 1 sack on 87% of snaps on top of the other great performance he had against them earlier in the season, his value has been good but will skyrocket when Joey Bosa (DE) returns and opposing offensive lines have someone besides him to worry about.

Raiders: There’s only one guy I care about on the Raiders, Tahir Whitehead (LB). He had 7 combined tackles on 100% of snaps and has been a mid tier two guy all season and is the only rosterable player on the Raiders defense this season, or at least the only guy with any kind of consistency or reliability.

Maurice Hurst (DT) is a nice futures option and had 4 solo tackles, 1 sack and 1 TFL on 70% of snaps. He’s had flashes of what he may be capable of in the future but just isn’t there yet. That’s it for the Raiders, I avoid them like the plague.
