Drue Tranquill, Kansas City Chiefs

Just prior to the kick-off of the legal tampering period, the Chiefs agreed to a new contract for three years and $19M with $12.5M fully guaranteed. One of the most interesting players who might’ve been available returns to the defending champions.

Implications for Fantasy

With teammate Willie Gay on the way out (more on that shortly), Tranquill is the big winner here. A guy who was mainly an injury fill-in for IDP managers in 2023, Tranquill combining his role and Gay’s role should see nearly 80% of snaps. With his ability to blitz and in coverage, he should be a solid backend LB2 at a minimum with that same handcuff ability in 2024 and 2025.

Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner, Washington Commanders

One team that probably made the biggest splash at LB is the Washington Commanders. First, they agreed to sign Frankie Luvu to a three-year, $36M contract. They followed that up by adding Bobby Wagner on a $8.5M, one-year deal. You’re looking at a new top pairing in the nation’s capital under new coach Dan Quinn. So who are the LB Winners and Losers here?

Implications for Fantasy

What a splash here. Wagner should be able to keep up his high-tackling ways as the leader of his old coordinator’s defense (worked together in Seattle). Luvu is likely to be a better fantasy option in 2024 with Washington, as he worked better with a good running mate in Carolina. The biggest loser here is former first-round pick Jamin Davis, who looks ticketed to becoming an edge defender under Quinn.
