Fantasy Football IDP Guys MFL Top Added Safeties

My Fantasy League Safeties Who Should Be Added And Who Should Be Dropped Going Into 2019.

Each month I’m going to review the top adds/drops, from each defensive position, on MFL’s site. Also included will be my recommendations on if these players should be added, or dropped from your roster. This article will be covering the MFL top adds then I will cover the top drops on safeties in my next article.

Add Montae Nicholson:

He was arrested and charged with assault and public drunkenness in December. Those charges have since been dropped, due to insufficient evidence. With all of this behind him, Montae can now compete for a starting job opposite free agent addition, Landon Collins. MFL has Nicholson’s 2019 projection at 76 tackles, 23 assists, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 5 interceptions. Currently, Montae sits at a three point seven eight percent add rate. I fully expect this to increase as the season gets closer, even more so if he can win the starting job. I think he’s going to have a breakout season, in year three, if all goes his way.

Add Marquise Blair:

He sat out minicamp with a hamstring injury, which isn’t good for his case to be a week 1 starter. What he does have in his favor is that only Tedric Thompson is ahead of him on the depth chart. If he can put a strong training camp, along with his talent, he could still start week 1 against Cincinnati.  MFL doesn’t currently have any 2019 projections for Blair. Currently, Marquise sits at a two point three eight percent add rate, which should increase drastically as the season approaches.

Add Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Taxi Squad):

The New Orleans Saints gave up 2 draft picks to move up 11 spots, in the fourth round, to select Gardner-Johnson. He is drawing comparisons to, Miami Dolphins Safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick. MFL has Chauncey’s 2019 projections at 16 tackles and 5 assists. Currently, Garder-Johnson sits at a two point two three percent add rate. He makes for a great taxi squad add, which should increase his add percentage.

Add Taylor Rapp (Taxi Squad):

He has the ability to learn from one of the best safeties in the game, Eric Weddle, who only signed a two year contract, this off-season. The Rams do view Rapp as a starter down the road. MFL has Taylor’s 2019 projections at 14 tackles, and 4 assists. Currently, Rapp sits at a two point one one percent add rate. I think this could increase slightly. Weddle hasn’t played fewer than 16 games in a season, since 2015.

Add Nasir Adderley (Taxi Squad):

He will be competing with Rayshawn Jenkins and Adrian Phillips for a starting safety job opposite Derwin James on the Chargers defense. MFL has Nasir’s 2019 projection at 47 tackles, 11 assists, 2 interceptions, and 1 sack. Currently, Adderley sits at a two point zero seven percent add rate, which should increase nicely given how wide open the competition is for the starting job.

Conclusion

As you can see, four of the five on this list are rookies, but everyone has a bright future in the NFL and in IDP leagues. Outside of linebackers, solid safety play is a definite must if you want to compete for championships year in and year out in fantasy football leagues. Ranking the add order of players mentioned would be Montae Nicholson, Marquise Blair, Nasir Adderley, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Taylor Rapp. Please keep an eye out for the top drops at safety.
