It’s finally time to start cranking up the IDP fantasy football excitement now that the redraft season is taking off. This series will focus on breaking down the top tiers of each position using our IDP redraft rankings. I will be exploring the often-overlooked and undervalued defensive tackles.

Most DT leagues only require one starter at the position, but we want to give you more than just the top 12 players. So, I will be breaking down the top 20 ranked DTs into 4 tiers. Each tier will focus on at least three players, best value, biggest bust potential, and best sleeper potential. Just keep in mind that the “busts” and “sleepers” are relative to their tiers. A Tier 1 bust could still have a solid Tier 2 season, but they wouldn’t be living up to their draft capital. Without further ado, let’s dive into the trenches.

Value: DeForest Buckner, Indianapolis Colts

Too often fantasy managers enter the draft with a dynasty mindset, and bypass Buckner for the shiny new breakout potential rookies. Too often they are left disappointed with that decision. Buckner is the bar for measuring DTs and he is the surest bet to live up to being the top DT drafted. His consistency from year to year is top-notch. Knowing you have a guaranteed 60 tackles, 7.0 sacks, and 20 TFLs just from drafting Buckner, will make building the rest of your IDP team a breeze.

Bust: Justin Madubuike, Baltimore Ravens

Madubuike came out of nowhere to lead all DTs with 13 sacks, including an 11-game streak with at least a half-sack in 2023. It honestly feels a bit flukey after three forgettable seasons prior to the fourth-year breakout. Defensive linemen are known for taking a few years to find their groove, DeForest Buckner included. 2023 was also a contract year for Madubuike and players are known to ball out for a fat new contract. I do expect a solid year out of Madubuike as the Ravens boast the tenth easiest schedule for DTs, but it will be incredibly difficult to repeat the 13-sack total.

Sleeper: Quinnen Williams, New York Jets

Williams is coming off a relatively quiet year that saw him only record 5.5 sacks after dropping 12 sacks in 2022. His tackle numbers have stayed consistent each of the past four years, and his pass-rushing PFF grades are near the top. Take advantage of IDP managers chasing Madubuike’s 13 sacks, and Derrick Brown’s 100 tackles, and grab Williams at a discount. Williams should finish right alongside Buckner by season’s end.
