Chase Young Over 0.25 Sack @+145 (Saints)

The former first-round and one-time top 5 pass rusher option in the NFL, Chase Young has emerged in New Orleans this season. And although it’s not at an elite level, it is still well above par and seems to be getting a little better each week. So far this year, after a slow start in week one, he’s recorded 14 combined tackles (8 solo), 2 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and 9 QB hits in the last four weeks. Is this dominant? No. However, it’s enough to bet on when it comes to what the Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield offer. And at the same time, we are looking for big plus money bets for the win. So keep everything in mind if you’re also looking at the Saints Carl Granderson (-115). Who indeed is another great option in Week 6. And even despite Young getting the blind side edge rusher gig rather than Granderson this season. At least from what we saw on the Falcons game tape.

In terms of overall production, Tampa Bay is top-12 in allowing production off the edge. The Bucs’ offensive line is also outside most top 15 site rankings. Which, so far has translated into Baker Mayfield being sacked 16 times. Although, the real eye-opener is that the Bucs’ haven’t played against more than a “good” pass-rushing defense yet this year. However, that’s not kept the below-average edge rushers like Clelin Ferrell, Nik Bonitto, Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, or the numerous other “Average Joe DLs” from hitting home on Baker. And it’s that unimpressive list of names, the sack count, and pressures, with the so-so offensive line were adding in pretty heavily here.

What About Derek Carr?

We also realize that the Saints will be starting rookie QB Spencer Rattler with Taysom Hill hurting and Derek Carr out this weekend. However, from the defensive side of things, this only means more snaps and opportunities. The Tampa Bay defense isn’t shabby, and I think we’d all agree that the Saints will be going 3 and out a few times than normal. Add all that with the Buccaneers’ passing game versus their less-applied and efficient running game. And I have no problem believing Chase Young will cover a quarter of a sack with a whole one at home in this divisional matchup.

Preston Smith Over 0.25 Sack@+155 (Packers)

Rarely would I have the opportunity to get a winner out of a plus money option two weeks in a row. Although for the same reasons, we won with Preston Smith last weekend, we’re rolling with the obvious move. And honestly, on paper, this matchup is slightly stronger than last week’s versus Arizona. However, to repeat the plus side to Smith, he’s well above par in grades, playing a very full-time role as a pass rusher, and knowing this from last year. Smith matches up and delivers nicely every time he has a favorable matchup. And that one you’ll have to trust me on, but you are talking to a very seasoned defensive guy with a lot of investment into IDP over the last 8 or 9 years (publically).

Moving on to the matchup, it’s no secret that Arizona’s offensive line is struggling. It’s also amazing to watch Kyler Murray avoiding more sacks than he’s endured so far this season. And it’s also pretty wild that of his 11 total sacks this season, 8 came in two none divisional games. And how is this a bonus? Well, from this guy’s point of view of see this a lot of the time. It means that the Cardinals are prepping more for their divisional rivals to survive than whoever they may be playing at the time. That may sound weird, but I’m telling you it can be a thing I’ve used to my advantage in the past.

Wait, There is More Week 6 NFL Parlay Picks

Arizona is playing on the road and in Green Bay, another little bonus for home-field advantage for Smith. And another thought, the Packers’ offense will likely push the Cardinals into passing their way through the game to keep up. And they already lean heavier on the passing game over running the ball 50/50. Hence, few more opportunities? So that sums it up why I’ll double down this week with Smith getting a sack. And that’s after already winning plus money with him last week when I normally couldn’t make a back-to-back bet on a guy.

Gervon Dexter Over 0.25 Sack @+175 (Bears)

I was a little disturbed when I selected Gervon Dexter at +190 for this bet originally. But within the time it took to find other bets my eyes didn’t race to his, he had dropped to +175. It’s like they have seen me coming or something. However, 175 works, and I can see it slowly falling to the -145 range by game time. Because if any of you are returning, we know Vegas must be the only place behind on knowing Dexter is a breakout in the sense it’s already happened. We also won an individual bet with Dexter just back in Week 4 when I explained he was in the midst of his breakout.

So there’s not much to add to his highly graded and totally unexpected leap his second year, if not to add that he also kept it up over week 5 when on paper it didn’t look so promising. However, he overachieved, which we love, and he had one sack, a fumble recovery, 2 tackles, and his highest total of the year, 4 QB hits.

So Technically Week 6 NFL Parlay Picks

So technically, the Jaguars offensive line isn’t all that bad at allowing overall production off the edge. However, as we’ve mentioned before that’s not the total picture in all cases. And in this case, it’s not as cut and dry protecting Trevor Lawerance when facing a formidable and healthy defensive front. And although Dexter might be the only elite-graded guy on there, they still can get the job done enough to help take on some double teams to open up Dexter.

Especially the talented veteran Montez Sweat, who just so happens to play right alongside Dexter fairly often. So we have our stud pass rusher Dexter, and a so-so matchup on paper. So what can push this over the top? We can’t, other than saying we’re leaning hard on Dexter as a player at this DEEP plus money bet for this parlay. Oh, and look at his season stats as a whole. And the big bonus? Dexter really has overachieved every matchup, so far. Favorable at the time, or not. And we’re willing to bet Dexter can do it again based off he’s had one full sack every game, but one.

So, an FYI. I round-robin this parlay of going straight. No particular reason. I’m just mixing things up and keeping it modest and manageable. And building slowly into what could be one hell of a deep plus money approach down the road.

Bryce Huff Over 0.25 Sack @+125 (Eagles)

I’m sure that many Eagle fans would do more than roll their eyes about Bryce Huff here. However, the Eagles’ main guy this year has been older veteran Brandon Graham, and he wasn’t available. And I’d like to mention this isn’t about Huff as much as he’s playing the Browns. Plus I did say above, are you feeling lucky?

Real quick to give you the low down on Bryce Huff. He had a decent year in New York last season and recorded 10 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 21 QB hits, and 29 combined tackles in 17 games he wasn’t even a starter in. At least according to Pro Football Reference. And it was clear he was the Jets secondary edge rusher that happened to be in a contract year that did break out with 10 sacks. It’s just too bad that’s not come close to translating to the Eagles whatsoever. But here are the facts as to why this matchup is the key, not so much the player. Just don’t forget, 10 sacks in 2023, there is some history of being capable.

The Matchup Versus Browns Bonus Points Round
  1. The offensive line not only ranked poorly but has gone through one of the worst cases of luck with injuries. And they weren’t all that at any point before the injuries started hitting.
  2. Cleveland’s Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been sacked 26 times in five games, with at least 3 of the five with 5 more sacks. And he’s not taken less than 2 sacks in one game.
  3. The names of the notable edge rushers that are included as recording a sack. Which either hasn’t been having a good year, or struggling, or bad, or even the unknown depth guys.
Sack Guys Vs. Browns NOT Struggling Or Otherwise…

Parsons, Micah DAL DE (1 sack for the year came vs. Browns, Struggling.)

Lawrence, Demarcus DAL DE (1 sack for the year came vs. Browns, normal.)

Ojulari, Azeez NYG DE (1 sack for the year came vs. Browns, normal, more a depth player

Chatman, Elijah NYG DE (R) (1 sack for the year came vs. Browns, depth guy.)

Burns, Brian NYG DE (1 sack vs. Browns, was struggling to get sacks.)

Thibodeaux, Kayvon NYG DE (1 sack vs. the Browns, was also struggling up to playing the Browns.)

Snowden, Charles LVR DE (1 sack for the year came vs. Browns, decent depth player only playing any because of injuries.)

Fowler, Dante WAS DE (1 sack vs. Browns, Older now, normal, and added to the one other half sack he has for the season.)

So yep, to have a good time watching the game, and thinking that’s 26 sacks and a decent player who had shown promise. I bet a modest four-man round-robin Parlay on all 4 of these players. And that’s thinking the odds are even greater for Huff to seize the potential for the current match-up on paper on the pure volume allowed by the Browns.
