Early Free Agent Linebacker Dynasty IDP Rankings

To try and maximize a five-year fantasy football dynasty window long-term. The following early F.A. Inside Linebacker Dynasty IDP Rankings have an age limit of 28 years of age. So if we are looking for older players like Bobby Wagner, Jordan Hicks, or Lavonte David, they didn’t make the list. However, we like to note that Josey Jewell and Zach Cunningham just missed this IDP rankings by a matter of days. And we would certainly feel comfortable inserting Jewell in tier two somewhere. And Cunningham could have pushed Shaquille Leonard for the last spot in that same tier.

1. Patrick Queen – LB1 Stock: Holding

The one likely player at the top of everyone’s list is inside linebacker Patrick Queen. He has earned a chance at a big payday after finishing out his rookie contract with a bang. And Queen was the most consistent career in this year’s free agency class. And that fact will bring plenty of other NFL teams into the picture wanting to sign him long-term. Reportedly, the Ravens don’t have the cap at the moment.

Baltimore also has quite a few higher-priority contracts coming up or due. So we could project that someone like the Seahawks, who have shown interest, could hand him a big contract. And at his caliber of play, we can’t imagine there’s no way that Queen can’t thrive anywhere he lands. He’s a pass-rushing coverage off-the-ball ILB that any NFL team would be happy to have. Hence, so should any IDP manager thinking of dynasty in any drafts or leagues.

3. Azeez Al-Shaair – LB1 Stock: Holding

The Titans signed Azeez Al-Shaair to a “prove-it” one-year deal after losing their two starters last offseason. He was a great signing after being overshadowed by Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw in San Fransico. However, Al-Shaair had an incredible first season as a starter as a Titan. Setting career-highs in all his stats with solid performances across the board. He made 166 tackles, which was the fifth-highest in the league. And the most by any franchise player since Ray Childress in 1986. Leaving us to think he did indeed prove it and should be a priority for the Titans to resign long-term. And we see an upside to better LB1 value in his second year in the team’s defensive scheme, so there’s an upside here too.

3. Jerome Baker – LB1 Stock: Questionable

Jerome Baker has been a decent linebacker for Miami and IDP managers for six seasons. However, he is now in the final year of his three-year, $37.5 million contract. And there is a strong possibility that the team may not retain him. The Dolphins also have several high-caliber free agents on the offense and defense this year. Baker’s salary for 2024 is almost $15 million, but the Dolphins could save $11 million by releasing him after June 1. This would result in only $3.7 million in dead cap for this season and $1.2 million for the next.

Baker’s IDP free-agent value is solely based on where he might land, there are a lot of ILB-needy teams right now. And even if Miami seemed to fade him somewhat for 2023 free agent David Long this past season. We think there will be a market, and likely a new role for Baker somewhere. And he hasn’t exactly wowed anyone as an ILB who can run a defensive unit or play to the level most teams might expect. So we’re also guessing this might have been a better lower-tier two option depending on where he lands.
