Christian Wilkins (DT) Las Vegas Raiders

Injury: Jones FractureNFL Injuries
Injury Date: 10/6/2024
Expected Recovery Time: 6-8 weeks
Player(s) to Target: DT Adam Butler, LB Robert Spillane

The first major NFL injury to discuss is the Las Vegas Raiders’ major free-agent acquisition. Star DT Christian Wilkins joined the team this offseason and has been teaming up with Maxx Crosby to have a solid start to the season. Unfortunately, things have taken a sour turn as Wilkins picked up a foot injury last week. And it was revealed he broke a bone in his foot and will be out for several weeks.

Wilkins specifically injured the base of his pinky toe, which is known as a Jones fracture. This area of the foot is particularly important in weight-bearing and activities such as running and jumping. At times, surgery is required to ensure the bone heals properly and on an adequate recovery timeline. So, already being placed on IR, I would not expect to see Wilkins back on the field until at least six weeks from now. Bones need time to heal and this is not an injury a player wants to rush back from.

With Wilkins’s big presence missing from the middle of that defense, I like DT Adam Butler to step up on the line of scrimmage and LB Robert Spillane to clean things up on the second level of the defense.  Given the Raiders’ injuries and ineptitude, I expect the Steelers to be leading in this game and leaning on the run game. Also, this will create plenty of opportunities for Butler and Spillane.
