My Fantasy League Defensive Ends Who Should Be Added And Who Should Be Dropped Going Into 2019.

Each month I’m going to review the top adds/drops, from each defensive position, on MFL’s site. Also included will be my recommendations on if these players should be added or dropped to your roster. This article will be covering the top adds then I will cover the top drops on defensive ends, in my next article.

Top Adds:

To this point in the off season this list is fairly small. Only four players making the two percent threshold on MFL’s site.

Add Olivier Vernon:

He was acquired this off season from the New York Giants in exchange for guard Kevin Zeitler. In addition the Browns and Giants swapping 2019 mid round picks. The Browns valued the need of a pass rusher more than interior offensive lineman. The Browns feel they have depth on their offensive line. Vernon was a big disappointment in New York. The Browns are hoping that being on a new team and switching back to a 4-3 base defensive end will help rejuvenate his game. MFL has his 2019 projection at 33 tackles, 22 assists, 2 forced fumbles and 1 recovery, and 8 sacks. Vernon currently sits at just under a three percent add rate, which is something I expect to increase, during the off season.

Add Chase Winovich (Taxi Squad Only):

Rookie Chase Winovich is currently behind Deatrich Wise Jr on the Patriots depth chart. Wise is recovering from an ankle injury, though that’s not expected to affect his availability for week 1. While I do expect Winovich to make an impact, during his rookie season, I think it will be a minimal one. I’m only adding Chase to my taxi squad. I don’t see his add percentage of just under two and a half increasing much more.

Add Ben Banogu (Taxi Squad Only):

Rookie Ben Banogu is currently behind Jabaal Sheard on the Colts depth chart. Even though the organization loves his upside and long term potential to develop as a pass rusher, he still has some learning curves ahead of him. MFL has Banogu’s 2019 projection at 3 tackles and 2 assists.  Ben currently sits at just under a two and a half percent add rate and I do expect that to increase. I’m hopeful that the Colts can morph him into a key piece of their defense, in the near future.

Add Justin Houston:

There is some talk of Houston being a rotational player due to his recent injury issues. I don’t see that being the case. Given a two-year, $24 million contract, the hope is to fill one of their biggest off season needs. MFL has Houston’s 2019 projection at 42 tackles, 15 assists, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 interception, and 14 sacks. Justin currently sits at a two and a quarter percent add rate and I do expect this to surely increase.

Conclusion

I understand why all of these players have been added so much, this off season. I think only two of the four are ones that I would add to my active roster. Ranking the add order of the players mentioned would be Justin Houston, Olivier Vernon, Ben Banogu, and Chase Winovich. Please keep an eye out for the top drops for defensive ends.
