Taking a look at the NFL Week 14 from a IDP perspective; notes on what our writer @Orangeman3142 saw this weekend.

This article series throughout the season has focused on each teams IDP production with analysis and waivers every week. Now that we are into playoffs it will be short and sweet and most likely only a few parts for the next several weeks until fantasy playoffs are over. Let’s be realistic here, no one cares about bye week or short term replacements at this point and there are only three weeks left in the season so I’ll be focusing on just the important stuff.

I want to thank all of you that have read this series throughout the season I hope I was able to give you guys an edge in your leagues and the ability to grab the next big playmaker before anyone else did.

Let’s get into week fourteen. In the interest of saving time, which I don’t have a lot of this week due to work and other obligations, I’ll be skipping the complete breakdown with stats included but you’ll get the picture with the explanations of each players week.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans

Jags: Myles Jack (LB) had a huge week and led the Jags in IDP production but has been super spotty all season, I’m still only recommending him as a linebacker two or preferably three or four. He has had seven games with 6 or fewer combined tackles this season including a couple absolutely terrible games, that’s about half the time this season he’s put up a clunker so I wouldn’t count on him as a linebacker one at all.

Telvin Smith (LB) had an awesome game again and has been consistent and productive all season, continue to play him with confidence as a linebacker one throughout the playoffs. Jalen Ramsey (CB) and AJ Bouye (CB) both had solid games in a not ideal matchup and continue to be nice options in good matchups against teams that throw a lot.

Calais Campbell (DE) had a down week but has been a tier one auto start defensive end all year so you have to trust him through playoffs. Yannick Ngakoue (DE) had no stats of any kind but is still playable as a defensive end two or three. Ronnie Harrison (S) had a nice game replacing Barry Church (S) but I haven’t seen enough to be confident in him so unless you’re desperate for safety help I’d use another option.

Titans: It was Jurell Casey (DT) with a monster game this week, he continues to be a tier one auto start defensive tackle for playoffs. The Titans cornerbacks are all capable of being productive but unless you have return yards, for Adoree Jackson (CB), I would avoid the situation entirely there’s no way of knowing which one will go off each week it could be any of them, I’m streaming elsewhere.

Wesley Woodyard (LB) had seven combined tackles but six were assists so that killed his week, Tennessee dominated time of possession that also limited his production. I still think he’s a great play against a team that runs a lot and can keep their offense on the field more than Jacksonville did. Jayon Brown (LB) had a serviceable game and is a nice linebacker three if you can play him there, he’s playable as a linebacker two but can be spotty.

Kevin Byard (S) had a nice game but needed a sack to save his day, more and more lately he’s been big play dependent for tier one performances which is not good, you want a guy with a solid floor from tackles and the occasional sack or pick not a guy who has to rely on them to give you a safety one type performance, so buyer beware on him going forward.

Rashaan Evans (LB) is a disaster waiting to happen, inconsistency in both playing time and production can spell disaster in playoffs so I’m not playing him unless in a super deep league. And Kenny Vaccaro (S) is nothing more than a spotty safety two I’m not interested in for playoffs.

New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills

Jets: Both Avery Williamson (LB) and Jamal Adams (S) had awful days against a not so great Buffalo offense. Both of these guys have been tier one producers all season and play against Houston next week which is a far better offense.

I wouldn’t and don’t plan on giving up on either of these guys, it was definitely a bad time for an off game but it happens. I for one am more than willing to roll the dice with them again next week. Leonard Williams (DE) had a bad game as well but I hope by this point you’ve found a better option.

Bills: I told people all week that while it is a stupid stat it’s also a true one, Tremaine Edmunds (LB) hasn’t had back to back bad games this entire season, and he proved me correct this week with a team leading effort for IDP production. 8 combined tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PD and 1 INT was a great week at the perfect time, keep playing him he’s been solid all season with only one terrible game out of twelve total this season and remains a great option for playoffs.

Jordan Poyer (S) had a solid game as well and remains an end of tier one option at safety for playoffs. Matt Milano (LB) put up 6 solo tackles and 1 TFL and has been a great tier two option all season, keep playing him with confidence as well.

Jerry Hughes (DE) and Trent Murphy (DE) both had stinkers this week but I hope by this point you’re not relying on them for anything more than a defensive end three or four in super deep leagues. Lorenzo Alexander (LB) had a terrible game and shouldn’t be an option unless you’re incredibly desperate.

Carolina Panthers @ Cleveland Browns

Panthers: Tier one legend Luke Kuechly (LB) had a monster day but is an auto start regardless, no ones sitting this guy, carry on. Thomas Davis (LB) had a serviceable game and remains a nice tier two option at linebacker going forward while Eric Reid (S) had a down game this week, I’ll keep playing him though since he’s getting the playing time and has had far more great games than bad this season.

Kawan Short (DT) and Mike Adams (S) had bad games but Short is still in the tier one conversation for defensive tackle so you have to play him while Adams has been a solid tier two safety all season, I think the bad game had more to do with Cleveland scoring off big plays not running as many plays as we’re used to seeing with the Panthers playing so many explosive offenses in the NFC and NFC South specifically, they should both be fine.

James Bradberry (CB) and Captain Munnerlyn (CB) both had serviceable games and remain excellent options when the matchup is right, anytime they play teams like New Orleans or efficient passing offenses they are must starts, Bradberry more so than Munnerlyn because he gets 100% of snaps compared to about 80% per game.

Browns: Start of tier two safety Damarious Randal (S) led the way for the Browns with a monster game this week and remains a rock solid option at safety two. Joe Schobert (LB) and Jamie Collins (LB) both had great games but this was a perfect matchup against a Carolina team that runs Christian McCaffery (RB) about a thousand times a game, Schobert is the auto start of the two but Collins is a good option against teams with great run games like Carolina.

Myles Garrett (DE) had a monster game but is a tier one auto start at defensive end, no ones benching him unless you have an embarrassment of riches on your team. Larry Ogunjobi (DT) had a bad game and has been cold since his fast start to the year, if you haven’t found another option by now you may as well roll the dice with him the rest of the way, he’s capable of big games we just haven’t seen it lately.

Jabril Peppers (S) had a terrible game and was a sit for me this week, I’ve been warning people off him all season he’s just too inconsistent in both production and playing time, find another option for next week if he’s on your squad. Emanuel Ogbah (DE) had a bad game but was just a bye week guy this year so hopefully you didn’t have to play him. Denzel Ward (CB) didn’t play this week but remains a great option at corner in ideal matchups and when healthy.

Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers

Falcons: Freshly returned from injury Deion Jones (LB) had a bit of a down week but still serviceable overall, the Packers don’t run a whole lot so this was somewhat expected, you have to keep playing him though, it’s freaking Deion Jones, he’ll be fine. Foye Oluokun (LB) dropped off a cliff, but when the overall tackles leader only had 6 combined this week I would say it has more to do with gameflow than talent or snap count. He should be OK as a linebacker three or four going forward.

Damontae Kazee (S) had a serviceable game but has noticeably less production in the last two weeks since Jones returned to the lineup, with him on the field far fewer run plays are getting through the linebackers level to the safeties so I expect his struggles to continue, I’m looking for other options. Grady Jarrett (DT) had a bad week but is still an end of tier one defensive tackle so you have to keep playing him and hope for the best.

The Falcons corners had pretty solid weeks in an ideal matchup but suffer from the same problem as the Titans corners do, there are too many of them that are capable of being productive and you never know which one actually will be productive, too many Indians and no chiefs, so I avoid them entirely and stream elsewhere.

Packers: Blake Martinez (LB) had a monster game and remains a weekly tier one auto start at linebacker, keep playing him. Jaire Alexander (CB) had a great game in an ideal matchup and has been a solid IDP corner most of this season, continue to play him in good matchups like this one was against a great passing offense.

The Packers safeties continue to either suck or put up blah numbers and Clay Matthews (LB, EDGE) continues to be a massive risk to plug into a regular linebacker slot. Kenny Clark (DT) left with an elbow injury and had no stats of any kind, so that sucks, we’ll see how bad the injury is and figure it out from there.
