An in-depth waiver article that continues to be ahead of the game. Follow the path to fantasy success with the @FF_ProdigalSon Waiver Wire Week 6 edition.

We enter the bye-weeks of the season, so it’s time to get savvy. Makes trades and stash potential candidates so you’re ahead of your league for the bye weeks. It doesn’t matter where you sit on the league ladder, this is the period where you need to be present and active.

Look at the adds and drops of players overcoming weeks from league managers who may need a positional plug for a bye week. Furthermore, remember to always be ahead of your opponents and beat the waivers by looking at what players are on Week 7 byes. This is the time to swoop in and reap the potential rewards.

If you’re right down the bottom of your league’s ladder, your mentality should be ‘one week at a time’ and your goal is just to make your playoffs. Once you’re in the playoffs it’s a brand new competition.

If you’re on top of your ladder, don’t take your roster for granted. The managers underneath could pick up that all-important player for championship weeks that you could’ve had.

Week 7 Byes: Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers.

Week 5 Recap

Another hot week of waivers keeps us rolling.

The Bullseyes – Week 5

Kadarius Toney, WR, New York Giants

We had Kadarius Toney as an obvious add Week 5 with several of the Giants wide receivers banged up. I also mentioned him on numerous occasions as a must-start for Week 5 on my Twitter feed. He didn’t disappoint. He’s an everything man and the talent will only shine brighter as the season progresses.

Week 5: 10/13 catches 189 yards, 1 carry 7 yards; 29.60 Fantasy Points

The Giants will continue to play in negative game scripts over the coming weeks. Be aggressive in obtaining Kadarius Toney, if not already claimed. He should be your number one priority add.

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Buffalo Bills

We knew Emmanuel Sanders would have a great night in Week 5 against the Chiefs. He continues to see above 70% of snaps and averages 6 targets through a five-week stretch.

Week 5: 3/5 catches 54 yards; 20.40 Fantasy Points

He has a Week 7 bye. See if a manager drops him so you can add him because the schedule really gets favorable for the Bills when they return.

Dalton Schultz, TE, Dallas Cowboys

The door may be shut in acquiring Dalton Schultz. But it may be left ajar for one last time because the Cowboys have a Week 7 bye. Look out for Dalton Schultz in case a manager happens to drop him.

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence is starting to show what a great QB he can be. The dual-threat QB has averaged 7 running attempts over the last three weeks along with 2 rushing touchdowns.

Over a two-week stretch, Trevor Lawrence has made strides to being an efficient QB, completing over 70% of his passes and no turnovers. He now gets a game in London against Miami Dolphins.

Taylor Heinicke, QB, Washington Football Team

Yep. Taylor Heinicke remains as an obvious waiver pick-up. Even after he busted Week 5 against the stout Saints’ defense.

But Taylor Heinicke has been consistent since getting the QB job with three straight games of 20+ fantasy points. He gets what should be a shootout match-up with the Chiefs and then the Packers. Keep trusting Taylor Heinicke. I am.

Devontae Booker, RB, New York Giants

Devontae Booker will likely get some time at the running back position with Saquon Barkley potentially missing time. Just be mindful that Kadarius Toney is a jack-in-the-box style player and could be used in certain packages in the red zone.

But volume is key in fantasy and the Giants have home games against the Rams and Panthers over the next two weeks.

Week 5: 16 carries, 42 yards, 1 touchdown; 3/4 catches 16 yards, 1 touchdown 20.80 Fantasy Points

Dan Arnold, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars

Dan Arnold continues to see targets since landing in Jacksonville. He tied the team in high targets in Week 5 and caught 6 of those for 64 yards. Trevor Lawrence seems to like targeting his TEs and Dan Arnold could continue to see volume this week against the Dolphins.

Week 5: 6/8 catches, 64 yards,1 Fumble; 9.40 Fantasy Points

Evan Engram, TE, New York Giants

With the majority of the Giants’ receivers sidelined with injury, Evan Engram could be a great addition, in hopes that he sees targets. Kyle Rudolph’s blocking abilities have freed up Evan Engram to be primarily a pass catcher.

Other obvious candidates (Deep Rosters Only):

Trey Lance, QB, San Francisco 49ers

Darrel Williams and Jerrick McKinnon, RBs, Kansas City Chiefs

James Washington, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Cleveland Browns

Hunter Henry, TE, New England Patriots

The Bold

Marquez Callaway, WR, New Orleans Saints

Marquez Callaway finally had that game majority of fantasy managers wanted Week 1 after been touted as a breakout candidate. Unfortunately, he is still a bold add due to the volatility of Jameis Winston at QB. When most of your volume comes off of one-play, he is a boom-or-bust type player – one of Marquez Callaway‘s touchdowns came from a ‘Hail Mary’ on the stroke of halftime.

Week 5: 4/8 catches 85 yards, 2 touchdowns; 24.50 Fantasy Points

Don’t go too hard in adding Marquez Callaway. The Saints have a Week 6 bye and Michael Thomas may be returning soon.

Amon-Ra St Brown / Trinity Benson WRs, Detroit Lions

Quintez Cephus has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Tyrell Williams is also still on IR. Amon-Ra St Brown has seen back-to-back games of 8 targets and could be in line for further volume. He should be an add for PPR leagues for managers who need to fill in a flex spot for bye weeks. He is a possession-type receiver so hold expectations on touchdowns.

Week 4: 6/8 catches 72 yards; 14.50 Fantasy Points

Week 5: 7/8 catches 69 yards; 13.50 Fantasy Points

I’m still a believer in Trinity Benson. Have been the entire season. This unfortunate injury to Quintez Cephus may open the door for Trinity Benson to see the field more. If it doesn’t, I will abandon the Trinity Benson breakout ship.

Other Bold candidates (Deep Rosters Only):

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins

Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks

A.J. Dillon, RB, Green Bay Packers

Ross Dwelley, TE, San Francisco 49ers

The Stashes

Jeff Wilson Jr, RB, San Francisco 49ers

Jeff Wilson will remain on the stash list for a reminder to see if he is available in your league to put on the IR position.

Michael Carter, RB, New York Jets

Michael Carter has seen 50% snaps and has back-to-back touchdown games. He has the Week 6 bye so pick him up if available and stash him. He could be a nice plug and play in the weeks ahead.

Alex Collins, RB, Seattle Seahawks

We are unsure of Chris Carson’s return timetable or what will happen with his neck injury over the course of the season. But Alex Collins is the clear back-up in the Seahawks backfield, handling an entire workload in Week 5. He is a great handcuff to have in case the Seahawks deem Chris Carson is better on IR.

Other Stash candidates (Deep Rosters Only):

Dwayne Haskins or Mason Rudolph, QBs, Pittsburgh Steelers

Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

N’Keal Harry, WR, New England Patriots

The Traps

Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

I just can’t trust Ben Roethlisberger. A Week 6 match-up brings the Seahawks but the Seahawks’ defense will surely bounce back from their poor performance against the Rams. Big Ben is playing through a host of injuries and looks like he is one hit away from retiring.

The Steelers also have the bye Week 7 before returning to a tough schedule stretch that includes @CLE, CHI, DET, @LAC, @CIN, BAL, @MIN. Leave him on waivers or on another manager’s roster.

David Njoku, TE, Cleveland Browns

Be warned. David Njoku will not see a game like this again. Be wary. David Njoku is a prime sell-high candidate. Be smart. Don’t add him.
