Taking a look at the NFL Week 12 from a IDP perspective; notes on what our writer @Orangeman3142 saw this weekend.

This is a continuation of our weekly article series that breaks down what we saw this week in IDP fantasy football. What happened and why, what we got right and what we got wrong and more importantly how to move forward and get better next week. We look at possible waivers and trends, snap counts and issues that affect production for your IDP team.

Part two will cover the next three games of week twelve. Keep an eye out for part three dropping tomorrow morning and make sure you caught part one from yesterday.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Buffalo Bills

Jags: It was another week of excellence from Telvin Smith (LB) who recorded 9 combined tackles on 100% of snaps this week, he’s having another terrific year and is an auto start every week. Calais Campbell (DE) continues to play well and had 4 combined tackles on 86% of snaps this week in a serviceable effort, this was his worst game in a month and he still got you a decent score for a defensive end.

Myles Jack (LB) had yet another god awful week with just 3 combined tackles playing 100% of snaps at middle linebacker, he’s been a massive disappointment this season. Both IDP relevant IDP cornerbacks, Jalen Ramsey (CB) and AJ Bouye (CB), had down weeks. Ramsey recorded just 4 combined tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps, while Bouye had 2 solo tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps.

I predicted this in my start or sit article due to the Bills passing offense being less than ideal when it comes to corner matchups for IDP purposes.

Barry Church (S) and Yannick Ngakoue (DE) both had down games this week with Church putting up just 3 solo tackles on 95% of snaps while Ngakoue had 1 solo tackle and 1 TFL playing 86% of snaps this week. This doesn’t change who these guys are most weeks with Church remaining an end of tier two safety with a solid floor but a crappy ceiling and Ngakoue still best used as a short term option unless in a really deep league.

Bills: It looks like we’re finally seeing what Jordan Poyer (S) is capable of, he’s been hot lately and had another monster game this week with 10 combined tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PD and 1 INT on 100% of snaps this week. He’s a tier one safety whose had a slow start this season but finally seems to be heating up.

Lorenzo Alexander (LB) was next because of course he is, I recommended benching him this week so this makes perfect sense, he had 8 combined tackles, 1 sack, 2 TFL and 2 PD on 67% of snaps this week but is still far too spotty for my tastes. Tremaine Edmunds (LB) was next with 8 combined tackles on 100% of snaps and remains a rock solid mid tier one linebacker and a weekly auto start.

Matt Milano (LB) had a nice week with 3 solo tackles, 1 PD and 1 INT on 96% of snaps but has been up and down all year so is still best played only in deeper leagues. Trent Murphy (DE) was back in action this week after being out with injury the last couple weeks so that killed Shaq Lawson‘s (DE) day (no stats of any kind on 37% of snaps this week).

Murphy didn’t do so hot in his return to action recording just 1 solo tackle on 54% of snaps this week. Jerry Hughes (DE) had a down week as well with 2 combined tackles and 0.5 sacks on 79% of snaps and still is best played as a spot start or short term guy.

Kyle Williams (DT) had a great week but has been too spotty for me this year so I’m not interested unless I see this a lot more this kind of production in the next few weeks.

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals

Browns: It was not surprising at all to see Joe Schobert (LB) once again on top of the box score for the Browns this week, he’s been great all year and had 8 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 100% of snaps this week and remains a tier one weekly auto start.

Jabrill Peppers (S) and Briean Boddy Calhoun (CB) both had solid games but are both guys I rarely mention cause they’ve sucked the majority of this season so we’ll skip right over them both, show me consistency and we’ll talk.

Denzel Ward (CB) is back from injury for a couple weeks now and is shaking the rust off, he had a serviceable game this week with 4 solo tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps this week, he was a tier one guy before the injury and I have no doubt he can and will get back to that kind of production weekly.

Jamie Collins (LB) has been hot lately but cooled down this week with only 4 combined tackles and 1 PD on 99% of snaps this week, he should be fine though I highly doubt Clevelands offense will own time of possession as much as they did this week this defense saw far less time on the field this week due to that factor.

Damarious Randal (S) had a nice week with 3 solo tackles, 1 PD and 1 INT on 100% of snaps and remains a nice tier two option at safety. Myles Garrett (DE) salvaged a serviceable game with 1 solo tackle, 1 sack and 1 TFL on 77% of snaps but we expect more out of him than that each week.

Larry Ogunjobi (DT) had a decent week with 3 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 72% of snaps but has dropped back to an end of tier two defensive tackle after a scorching start to the season.

Bengals: With Preston Brown (LB) now on IR and Nick Vigil (LB) injured and out again this week we knew it would definitely be a good week for Vontaze Burfict (LB), who had 8 combined tackles and 1 PD on 97% of snaps, but the question was would it be Hardy Nickerson (LB) or Jordan Evans (LB) who picked up the slack?

Turns out the answer was Jordan Evans (LB) and Vincent Rey (LB) with Nickerson being the odd man out this week. Evans recorded 6 combined tackles on 95% of snaps while Rey had 6 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 61% of snaps this week. Besides Burfict I want no part of any of these guys it’s just too big a risk right now. I’ll plug Vigil back in when he’s healthy but rolling the dice with Nickerson, Evans or Rey is a big time risk that I want no part of.

The two outstanding IDP relevant safeties, Shawn Williams (S) and Jessie Bates (S), both had solid weeks once again with Williams recording 7 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 98% of snaps while Bates put up 5 solo tackles and 1 PD on 100% of snaps in his worst game of this year, seriously, 5 solo and a PD was his worst game this season, the kids amazing.

Geno Atkins (DT) had a stinker with just 1 tackle assist on 81% of snaps but Carlos Dunlap (DE) had a nice week with 6 combined tackles playing 83% of snaps this week. Both remain solid start of tier two options at defensive tackle and defensive end but Atkins is in a serious slump at the moment so buyer beware.

Neither of the IDP relevant IDP corners here had great games but both Dre Kirkpatrick (CB) and Darqueze Dennard (CB) remain decent options against strong passing offenses this year.

New England Patriots @ New York Jets

Patriots: The Jets kept this game close for most of the afternoon and ran a surprising amount of successful offensive plays today leading to an unexpectedly solid performance for the Patriots IDP.

Patrick Chung (S) led the way with 13 combined tackles and 1 TFL on 100% of snaps this week. While those numbers are great his overall consistency is not so I’ll pass. Kyle Van Noy (LB) had a decent game with 5 solo tackles, 1 TFL and 1 PD on 98% of snaps this week and remains a decent tier two linebacker option.

Trey Flowers (DE) had a serviceable game this week recording 2 combined tackles, 1 sack and 1 TFL on 94% of snaps this week, he’s a tier two auto start for me and probably the only player on this defense I legitimately depend on every week. Besides those three there wasn’t much in the way of terrific games for the Pats IDP this week and where there was it was unreliable and inconsistent guys I won’t waste anyones time talking about.

Jets: It was the dynamic duo once again leading the way for the Jets this week. Avery Williamson (LB) and Jamal Adams (S) both had monster games this week adding to their already ridiculous seasons. Williamson recorded 11 combined tackles on 100% of snaps this week and is a tier one linebacker and weekly auto start. Adams had 10 combined tackles and 3 PD on 100% of snaps and is a tier one safety and weekly auto start.

Darron Lee (LB) had a decent day with 6 combined tackles on 100% of snaps this week and is a decent tier two option. Marcus Maye (S) was injured and out this week and Leonard Williams (DE) had a blah week with 3 combined tackles on 83% of snaps played this week, he’s still best used as a once and done spot start for bye week issues.

The Jets corners are unpredictable so while there were at least one or two with nice days this week I believe it’s a waste of time to talk about them I don’t recommend corners that aren’t either consistent like Kendal Fuller or worth the headache like Denzel Ward.
