Week seven had some more IDP players step up for their respective teams. Some veterans but more importantly some high upside rookies had more playing time. Check here who are the must adds for the week.

The IDP injuries keep racking up in the NFL. Neville Hewitt missed week seven with a new injury, P.J. Williams was suspended and Nigel Bradham missed another game due to injury. There were also a couple trades and waiver acquisitions that happened that made an impact in week seven. Lets take a look into who should be added in your IDP leagues following week seven.

Roderic Teamer – Safety Los Angeles Chargers

2019 Stats: 31 Tackles (22 solo), one tackle for a loss, one pass defensed and one interception (Five Games)

The Chargers safety depth has taken huge hits this season. Derwin James is out for most likely all of the regular season and Adrian Phillips is now on IR as well. Luckily for the Chargers they have found some nice gems to fill out the roster. Rayshawn Jenkins is in his third NFL season and has made the most of it. More impressively is undrafted rookie Roderic Teamer though. He has started at safety ever since Adrian Phillips went down. In his five starts he has averaged over six tackles per game. That is a pace for a 96 tackle season, very good for a safety. Teamer is a must add going forward if depth is needed at safety for you.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson – Safety New Orleans Saints

2019 Stats: 10 solo tackles, two tackles for a loss and two passes defensed. (one start)

Gardner-Johnson was a high-caliber rookie pick for an already stout Saints secondary. The safety position is quite crowded for the Saints with Marcus Williams at free safety and Vonn Bell at strong safety. Marshon Lattimore and Eli Apple man the outside corner spots and P.J. Williams in the slot. Gardner-Johnson is talented enough to play any position in the secondary but every position already boasted a quality starter.

P.J. Williams has been suspended for two weeks and Gardner-Johnson is going to try to run with the position. P.J. Williams was not the most impressive slot corner but he has been able to get the job done. Gardner-Johnson came in with a week seven start and produced seven tackles, two for a loss and two passes defensed. If he can produce like this for a second straight game than the Saints would be smart to roll out starting their prized rookie.

L.J. Fort – Linebacker Baltimore Ravens

2019 Stats: Eight tackles (six solo), two tackles for a loss, one sack and a pass defensed. (two starts)

L.J. Fort was signed by the Eagles in the off-season but was recently released. Fort was picked up off of waivers by the Ravens after they have had issues finding a C.J. Mosley replacement. Most thought that Kenny Young would be the replacement but he failed to win the starting job and also failed to make a push for the job to start the season. Chris Board, who won the weak side job has also underwhelmed all season.

Fort has started the last two games for the Ravens and in his last start made a huge impact. During that game he came up with six total tackles, two for a loss and a sack. Fort seems to be the new starter at the weak side linebacker position for the Ravens and that can be a very productive position.

Nathan Gerry – Linebacker Philadelphia Eagles

2019 Stats: 23 tackles (15 solo), one tackle for a loss, two passes defensed, two interceptions and a touchdown.

Nate Gerry has been a very bright light in the center of the Eagles defense. Nigel Bradham has had an injury riddled season, the team released L.J. Fort and Zach Brown and Kamu Grugier-Hill was injured early in the season and has come back quite slow. Gerry has been the most consistent of the group with his time on the field. He has started the last three games and has accumulated 18 total tackles, one for a loss, one pass defensed and one interception during that time. His last game was his most impressive where he totaled 11 total tackles. Fire Gerry again as he should see a large majority of the teams stats.

A.J. Bouye – Cornerback Jacksonville Jaguars

2019 Stats: 27 tackles (22 solo) and three passes defensed.

A.J. Bouye is only two seasons removed from 56 tackles, 18 passes defensed and six interceptions. Bouye was signed in 2018 by the Jaguars to be the number one cornerback but they also drafted Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey outplayed Bouye and won the number one corner job and is an actual true lockdown corner. Ramsey has now been traded to the Rams leaving Bouye as the number one corner once again. In his first game as number one he posted six tackles and a pass defensed. Bouye will be covering the likes of Deandre Hopkins and T.Y. Hilton in their division, both of whom are target hogs. Fire him up with confidence at cornerback.

Jeffery Simmons – Defensive Tackle Tennessee Titans

2019 Stats: Four solo tackles, two tackles for a loss and a sack. (one game)

Jeffery Simmons was a consensus top 15 pick leading up to this past NFL draft. Unfortunately for him he suffered a torn ACL during the predraft process. This still did not stop the Titans from taking him in the first round and it seems to have been the correct decision. Simmons was able to make it back with the team for week seven which is an unbelievable recovery from an ACL. In his first game action he posted four tackles, two for a loss and a sack. With the makings of being one of the top defensive tackles in the league and should be added along all formats.

Conclusion

Week seven had a couple rookies posted great games for their teams. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Roderick Teamer, and Jeffery Simmons all played very well. Teamer is playing after Derwin James and Adrian Phillips went down. Gardner-Johnson is covering for P.J. Williams while he is suspended and hopes to run with the job. Simmons is back from a torn ACL and is looking like a beast.

A couple of inside linebackers have seem to have seized a starting role for their respective teams. Nathan Gerry has started the past three games for the Eagles after they have failed to put together a solid starting group all season. L.J. Fort, who was released by the Eagles, seems to have one the job that neither Kenny Young or Chris Board could secure. A.J. Bouye has retaken the role of top corner in Jacksonville and will be looking to get back to his 2017 form. For our offensive waiver adds, please check out @MorganMcLane’s article here.
