Top 10 IDP Transfers

The transfer portal has seen a ton of players move to new schools. Who are the top ten transfers so far and where did they land?

The transfer portal has been a hot topic this year, especially with the NCAA instituting a one-time transfer anywhere rule. With that in place, any player can transfer anywhere they wish one-time without penalty or having to sit a year. It’s the college version of free agency and there has been plenty of players on the move.

1. LB, Henry To’o To’o, Alabama

After two seasons with the Volunteers, the rising star linebacker is set to become the brightest star in the sky with the Crimson Tide. With his transfer to Alabama, the Tide now has the replacement and upgrade for Dylan Moses they were looking for. To’o To’o will have a major impact on Bama’s defense.

2. LB, Mike Jones, LSU

Jones makes the transfer from one Tiger clan to another and will be making a role change as well. At Clemson, he was an outside linebacker but wanted to switch to the inside. LSU gives him that opportunity and fills a huge need for them after former transfer Jabril Cox left for the NFL.

3. LB, Palaie Gaoteote IV, Uncommitted

Gaoteote is a former five-star linebacker who has been ferocious hitting downhill when he’s been healthy. With To’o To’o and Jones off the board, Gaoteote becomes the top available defender on the board. Whoever he decides to commit with is getting one hell of a player.

4. Edge, Jordan Strachan, South Carolina

The nation’s leader in sacks (10.5) a year ago at Georgia State is making the jump to the SEC and will be heavily needed to solve the Gamecocks’ pass-rushing deficiencies. He’ll immediately step into a starting role but will have to take his game to the next level, now that he’s facing top-end talent on a weekly basis.

5. CB, Derion Kendrick, Uncommitted

Kendrick has NFL caliber talent, but his off-the-field issues (weapons charge) are a concern and have prevented college teams from rushing to get him. Georgia appears to be the leader in the clubhouse and has a huge need in their secondary, but nothing official has been confirmed.

6. CB, Tykee Smith, Georgia

The Bulldogs’ secondary took a huge hit as Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, Mark Webb, and Richard Lecounte all left for the NFL. That left a huge void to fill and they quickly snatched up Smith to help fill that need. He was a third team All-American last year and instantly gives the Dawgs a legit starting cornerback.

7. Safety, TJ Carter, TCU

Carter is a former true freshman All-American and is taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility that the NCAA granted this year. After a hot start to his career in Memphis, his numbers dropped a bit as a junior and senior. Now he heads to TCU where he will fill the voids left by Trevon Moehring and Ardarius Washington, who went to the NFL.

8. DE, Keion White, Georgia Tech

There have been a number of players making the jump up from the lower divisions to the FCS and White is another one poised to make that leap. He is a raw player with a ton of upside for the Yellow Jackets. Old Dominion didn’t play in the spring, but in 2019 White had 19 TFLs (ranked 10th in FBS in his first year on defense).

9. CB, Dreshun Miller, Auburn

Miller is no stranger when it comes to transferring, as he started his career with Eastern Arizona before transferring to West Virginia. After missing 2019 with a knee injury, he put together a very solid season for the Mountaineers. Now, he’s taking his talents to Auburn to help solidify their secondary.

10. DE Arnold Ebiketie, Penn State

After losing both of their starting defensive ends, Jayson Oweh and Shaka Toney, to the NFL, the Nittany Lions signed Ebiketie to fill a huge need. He led his former team, the Temple Owls, in TFLs (8.5), sacks (4), and forced fumbles (3) last season, earning sedcond team All-AAC Conference honors.
