The Miami Dolphins Are Hoping Their Young Defensive Players Can Step Up, In A Rebuild Year.
My series covering every NFL team continues with this article taking a look at the Miami Dolphins. I will be identifying players that I would consider adding ahead of the 2019 season. Also included will be my recommendations on what it might take to acquire these players.
Davon Godchaux, Defensive Tackle:
Davon Godchaux, 24, had the big task of filling the spot vacated by Ndamukong Suh, going into last season. In Godchaux’s first full season, as a starter, he had a stat line of 31 solo tackles, six tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, and one sack. I think that’s a very respectable stat line, for the now, third year Miami Dolphin. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of season Davon can have in year two as a starter and he makes a great buy low player for me heading into 2019.
Fantasy Recommendation:
Godchaux finished last season as the 24th best defensive tackle, in My Fantasy League overall scoring. I think he makes a great defensive tackle two add in IDP leagues for this season. He should be available on your wavier wire.
Honorable Mention: Akeem Spence, Defensive Tackle.
Mike Hull, Linebacker:
This was a hard one for me to pick due to the talent the dolphins have at this position with Kiko Alonso, Raekwon McMillan, and Jerome Baker. The reason I picked Mike Hull, 24, is because going into last season he was pegged as a starter, but quickly lost that job due to injuries.
He was only able to start one game and play in eight and only had seven solo tackles. With him fully healthy and the dolphins in full rebuild mode , there is a high likely hood that Alonso gets traded at the deadline, if his play keeps up. If that happens, than Hull would be a nice replacement, making him a nice buy low and stash.
Fantasy Recommendation:
If he ends up starting in the middle of this season than he would be a weekly starter. He should be available on your wavier wire.
Honorable Mention: Whoever Miami drafts.
Bobby McCain, Cornerback:
Bobby McCain, 25, started 13 games and played in one more, last season. He ended 2018 with 50 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and two sacks. With him signing a four-year contract extension, last off season, I think he has a great chance to start all 16 games this season.
With the dolphins expected to be behind a lot this season, that should open up extra opportunities for McCain to make plays and build off of his sold 2018 season. He makes a great depth add and buy low for the upcoming season.
Fantasy Recommendation:
To me McCain’s arrow is really pointing up and he may be available on your wire due to his injury shortened season. If not, it shouldn’t cost you more than a late round pick.
Honorable Mention: Xavien Howard, Cornerback.
Conclusion
As I’m sure you know by now, the Miami Dolphins will be in for a long season, due to their upcoming rebuild process. Even with that, they still have some young pieces who they’re hoping will take the next step and be part of their core for years to come. If you’re able to add these guys as stashes, you should.
Ranking these buy lows in order of priority, it would be Bobby McCain, Davon Godchaux, and Mike Hull. Hopefully, you find these recommendations helpful in your quest to build that championship roster for 2019. Please keep an eye out for the Minnesota Vikings.
