Welcome to the 2022 IDP recap and 2023 deep dynasty profile for the Bengals Safety Daxton Hill.
2022 Regular Season Recap
Don’t let the former first-rounder’s 2022 IDP and NFL stat totals or games played fool you. There was a huge amount of organizational backroom drama when the Bengals selected Daxton Hill so high in the draft last season. This explains a lot looking back at it and gives Hill a notable redshirt season. When in the end, veteran FS Jessie Bates was franchised.
This kept Hill on the bench for the most part, so he only saw one contest with more than 10%, his average. He saw 90% of the snaps and recorded a total of eight combined tackles, which was half of his total production for the year.
So the deep IDP hot take? It wasn’t all for nothing, though it was a little disappointing. Daxton Hill is now primed to play any position in this secondary in Cincinnati. Learning all there is to know about the slot, deep play, and in the box or adjustments needed. Hill went the other way his first year in the season for a high-profile rookie. Hence he receives that pass he deserves, and we’ll look for to his dynasty career.
2023 Dynasty IDP Profile
Now that the 2022 contract situation with Jessie Bates has played out. He and the other starting veteran safety Vonn Bell are both unrestricted free agents. So keeping this simple and coming full circle. Every Bengals fan will see that the organization drafted Hill simply knowing they had to, and it was perfect timing.
The Bengals do not have the cap space for the core future of this team if they aren’t mindful. They are keeping all those young, Pro-Bowl-caliber offensive weapons together by overpaying older guys right now. No matter just how good they are.
Especially one like Jessie Bate, who earned a bigger long-term payday and would have likely been in doubt. At least, thinking Cinnanitti would have paid him for sure, and with or without the situation as it was.
Ultimately, this Tipster IDP hot take is simple, but maybe not at the level some might predict when it’s this guy’s thinking. Bates is likely headed elsewhere, which will likely be where Hill plays. As we saw in the recent past, that only produced DB2 numbers, with the occasional DB1 outlier performance here and there.
I’ll admit if I’m wrong, and Hill somehow lands the strong safety role this offseason. Hit that link right below this hot IDP take because we’ll add him to the second-year safeties to target off the top.
