Why Now Is The Time To Sell Davante Adams In Dynasty

As we get closer to the 2021 NFL Rookie Draft, more and more dynasty leagues are showing increased activity. As dynasty owners start to examine their team and determine who to keep and who to try and move via trade, I’m going to tell you why now is the perfect time to trade Adams. I’ll also give you some possible trade options and who owners can target in return.

Adams Stock Never Higher

Last season, Adams started as WR2, according to IDP Guys ADP, and ended the season as the top wide receiver in fantasy. It helps when you have the league’s eventual MVP in Aaron Rodgers throwing you passes. As we inch closer to the start of the 2021 season, Adams is projected to finish as the top wide receiver, which would give him back-to-back WR1 finishes. The last time we had back-to-back WR1 finishes in fantasy was in 2015-2016 when Antonio Brown did it as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The MVP Effect

As you can tell, the only player who finished the same in back-to-back seasons was Travis Kelce. He’s an outlier, as he’s been the top tight end in fantasy football for a number of seasons. Kelce aside, I don’t see Davante Adams repeating as the top wide receiver at end of the 2021 season, largely due to the quarterback play following their MVP season. Mahomes and Jackson ended the season following their MVP season as top ten quarterbacks, but there was a slight drop off in their play. I think the trend continues for Aaron Rodgers which will impact Adams’ performance.

Quarterback Uncertainty For 2021

There has been a lot of talk this off-season surrounding the Green Bay Packers and their MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Coming into this off-season, most NFL teams were going to have to get creative with how they move money around to be able to be aggressive in free agency. The Packers were one of those teams, and they did adjust players’ contracts, just not Aaron Rodgers’.

In addition to Rodgers’ uncertain future in Green Bay, there now have been some trade rumors swirling around as well. It looks like three teams are rumored to be wanting to acquire the 2020 league’s MVP — the Steelers, Broncos, and Patriots.

With how uncertain Aaron Rodgers’ future is in Green Bay, this now also put the success of star wide receiver, Davante Adams, into question also. The Packers do have backup quarterback Jordan Love who they plan on giving the keys to, the question is how soon. Here’s a scouting report I found on Jordan Love, and I can see how it may take some time for him and Adams to develop some chemistry.

What Can I Get In A Trade For Adams?

If you’re not a contender in your dynasty league, then now is a great time to cash in on Adams’ value. If you can get a trade done before the NFL Draft, you should be able to maximize your value. Here are some trade options for those owners looking to move Adams:

I know it’s hard to move a top-tier wide receiver or player as a dynasty owner. However, those dynasty owners who can look at their team and realize now is the time to rebuild, if you’re not a contender, will be better off in the long run and get back to sustainability sooner.
