Redraft ADP Overvalued and Undervalued – Edge

There are players that live up to the hype from your draft day, and then there are those who flop. You have to roll the dice, and sometimes, you get the gem. Here are three overvalued and undervalued Edge players for your 2024 Redraft Season.

Overvalued Edge Players

Myles Garrett – Cleveland Browns

Garrett is overrated and overvalued. Is he a starting Edge in your league? Yes, he is absolutely a starter in your league. The cost to acquire him is where the disconnect happens. FantasyPros.com has him ranked as the #4 Edge in their rankings. MyFantasyLeague.com has him as the #9 DE in ADP out of 33 drafts thus far. Garrett has played all games in a season just twice in his seven-year career. He has actually missed 15 games which is almost a full season.

Garrett is very inconsistent in his production on a week-to-week basis. For example, over the last two seasons, he has scored 24 or more points in 8 games out of 32 played. Garrett scored 10 points or less in seven of those games. Garrett had 14 sacks last year but produced only 1 sack in his last 6 games played. Let someone else grab him with the overpriced pick.

Nick Bosa – San Francisco 49ers

If you take out 2020 when Bosa missed all but a game and a half, last year was his worst statistical year since he was a rookie. He did not produce after getting the huge contract. Is he still a starter on your squad? Absolutely. Is he worth the #5 ranking according to FantasyPros.com or the #6 ADP according to MFL when you take out the rookies? 2023 had him rank #29 in solo tackles, tied for #18 in sacks for all Edges.

The two players he tied were Bryce Huff and Travon Walker. Some players who produced more solo tackles than Bosa include Michael Danna, Dennis Gardeck, and Tuli Tuipulatu. Let someone else use the high pick.

Khalil Mack – Los Angeles Chargers

2023 gave Mack his most productive year since 2017 in tackles with 74. He also set a new career high in sacks with 17. Those stats have Mack ranked #13 on FantasyPros and he has an ADP of #11 using MFL data for all Edges. Here is the problem though as this was an anomaly.

In his prior 4 years, Mack averaged just 7.9 sacks, 41.5 solo tackles, and 11.5 QB hits. His QB hits did not even come close to matching his sacks last year. Mack has a new coach and new scheme this year so be careful on how early you want to take your shot.

Undervalued Edge Players

Jermaine Johnson – New York Jets

Johnson took a huge leap from his rookie year to his second year with the Jets in 2023. He at least doubled every single category in all possible stats. While playing a little over 22 plays a game as a rookie, he increased his defensive snaps to 44 per game. He will increase his snap percentage as 12 of his games last year had him in for just 69% or less of the defensive snaps. Double-digit sacks and 70+ tackles are definitely within range for 2024.

An Edges usual breakout begins in year three. Johnson’s year three will have him blow away the #18 Edge according to FantasyPros.com and the MFL ADP of #21. Haasan Reddick and Will McDonald will make sure the opposing defenses can’t put all of their focus on Johnson. It will be a win-win situation for the Jets.

Rashan Gary – Green Bay Packers

To say there are skeptics out there on Gary would be an understatement. After being the 12th overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Gary has not quite risen to the top of the mountain yet. He produced better stats in each of his first three years with the Packers. Gary’s 3rd year was his best to date with 9.5 sacks and 47 tackles. He was getting to the QB regularly as shown with the 28 QB hits that season. Ready to set new career highs in 2022, he was on pace until he tore his ACL in Week 9. The recovery was a little slower and it showed on the field to begin training camp.

Gary had two games in 2023 to remind everyone how dominant he can be. Week 3 had him produce 3 sacks on just 23 defensive snaps. Week 11 gave him 3 sacks, 7 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery on 43 snaps. The recovery from ACL surgery is shorter to get back on the field, but the production usually waits another year. The #31 ranked Edge according to FantasyPros.com and the 40th Edge taken according to MFL ADP need to be snagged by you much earlier.

Maxx Crosby – Las Vegas Raiders

How can Crosby be undervalued? Because he is not #1 on every list out there. FantasyPros.com has him ranked 3rd, fantasyinframes.com has him 3rd, idpguru.com has him #2, and draftsharks.com has him #3. I only found one site, rpofootball.com, that had him #1. His Edge ADP is set at #2 on MFL.

Folks, Crosby should be the first Edge player drafted in every single format. He has not missed a game in five years. Crosby plays nearly every defensive snap in every game. He has posted 179 tackles with 27 sacks over the past 2 years. Crosby has had just ONE single-digit scoring game in the past two years. If you are ever going to overspend on an IDP player, Crosby is the guy.
