The Prodigal Son continues his waiver wire success and, gives you the inside running for waiver wire week 3 adds.
Week 2 came and went as fast as week 1. You’re either sitting at 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2. Waiver wire week 3 is here to help if you are still unsure of what your next steps are or what direction you’re wanting to take your fantasy team!
Last week we had some hot tips that came to fruition:
- Traps – Elijah Mitchell and Jameis Winston.
- Zach Pascal continued his success with another TD.
- Taylor Heinicke got the job done.
- Teddy Bridgewater and Tim Patrick had success, with the latter finding the endzone for the second straight game in week 2.
- Mark Ingram, 14 carries and still saw the share of backfield touches. We did say be wary of the week 2 match-up also if you did land Ingram.
For waiver wire week 3, we expand even further. So let us help you in making some wise moves for your week 3 rosters.
The Bullseyes – Week 2
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Denver Broncos
Elton John will rewrite his song to: ‘Teddy burns the Jetssssssssssssssss’ after Bridgewater’s Broncos torch the New York Jets in week 3. He was an add for us last week and we will continue rolling with “Teddy Two Gloves” as long as he keeps lighting up defenses.
Week 2 Bridgewater threw 26/34 times for 328 yards and 2 passing TDs and was our pick up of the week to stream. Continue to ride the wave.
Jameis Winston, QB, New Orleans Saints
Week 2 I labeled him a trap and he will remain here even after his bad outing in week 2. No doubt someone will drop him to waivers and that’s where he should stay until we see consistency from Winston. Don’t do it.
The Obvious
Justin Fields, QB, Chicago Bears
No doubt the headline waiver wire addition of week 3, and the most obvious, is Justin Fields. We are unsure of the exact circumstances of Andy Dalton‘s injury. However, we were all resigned to the fact that Fields would be starting around this period of the season.
Fields is a dual-threat QB and if he wasn’t already stashed and is available in your league, then pick him up. In week 4 he gets the Lions.
Sony Michel, RB, Los Angeles Rams
Again opportunity presents itself due to a rib injury to Darrell Henderson. Henderson got banged up late and Sony Michel was able to come in, rushing for 10 carries and 46 yards. His time in this offense has been minimal. However, as the weeks progress, Michel should start to be integrated further. If Henderson is missing in action again, then Michel becomes an instant RB2.
Sony Michel hasn’t had any catches this season but, showed during the pre-season that he was more than capable of a pass-catching role:
- Pre-Season Week 2: 4 catches 4 targets for 37 yards
Keep monitoring the Henderson injury news and put in a waiver/medium FAAB claim for him. Although be wary if you obtain his services, as he faces off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 3.
Zach Pascal, WR, Indianapolis Colts
If you read last week’s waiver wire, we’ve raved about Zach Pascal. If he is still somehow available, you need to grab him. In week 2 he received another six targets from Wentz and caught five of those, including another trip to the endzone.
Pascal clearly has the eyes of Wentz when in scoring situations and has been efficient, turning all of his red-zone targets into touchdowns. Also, Zach Pascal has scored seven TDs in the last six games. Monitor Wentz’s injury status leading into week 3, but I don’t see much changing for Pascal.
Rondale Moore, WR, Arizona Cardinals
Just add him. He gets the Jaguars in week 3 and is clearly a significant part of this offense – full stream ahead.
The Bold
Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants
The rushing element is keeping Daniel Jones fantasy-relevant and he gets the Falcons, Saints, and Cowboys over the next three weeks. If he can keep his rushing ability going, he can keep producing his current fantasy scores.
Jones, the dual-threat QB stats over the first 2 weeks:
- Week 1: 267 passing yards, 1 TD; 27 rushing yards, 1 TD
- Week 2: 249 passing yards, 1 TD; 95 rushing yards, 1 TD
With so many injuries at QB, he is an add for two QB leagues. And if you’re adding him in one QB league, he is purely a stream-and-hope option.
James White, RB, New England Patriots
James White makes the bold list for a pickup because do we really know what Bill Belichick will do with his RBBC? White is an RB stalwart and can be played in PPR flex spots to fill a void but, just hold the expectation that he won’t have week 2 type performances every game.
Cordarrelle Patterson, RB/WR, Atlanta Falcons
History is against Patterson unfortunately, hence why he is added to the bold list. He has been solid in churning out production thus far for the Falcons and could be a sneaky pick-up in hopes that it continues.
Mike Davis continues to out-touch his counterpart, but Patterson’s stat line is enough to make him an add for PPR leagues only. He caught 5-of-6 targets for 58 yards and a TD through the air in addition to 7 carries for 11 yards and a TD on the ground.
In week 3 he gets the Giants, followed by WFT and then the Jets.
Anthony Schwartz / Donovan Peoples-Jones, WRs, Cleveland Browns
With both Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr injured, one of these players could be a shot in the dark.
In week 3 the Browns face off with the Bears. I would only be adding these two players if you’re desperate for a replacement in deep leagues.
James Washington, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Diontae Johnson looks to have a knee injury, which the extent of is unclear. If he were to miss any time James Washington would fill some of the voids of the Steelers throwing offense. But, don’t go using a lot of FAAB on him, as JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool are ahead on the depth chart. Washington is a deep league add only.
Maxx Williams, TE, Arizona Cardinals
Williams almost went full Maxx on the stat sheets in week 2 and he is in a high-powered offense with Kyler Murray looking to air it out to whoever is open.
- Week 2: 7 Catches 94 yards
The Stashes
Jeff Wilson Jr, RB, San Francisco 49ers
Injuries are derailing the 49ers’ backfield at a rate of knots. Because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if they bought in another veteran back if the week 2 injury diagnosis of the current crop is severe. That means Jeff Wilson is more of a stash than ever now since we know he has been stamped to return in November.
Terrace Marshall Jr, WR, Carolina Panthers
We are in week 2 and I still think the breakout will come sooner rather than later after back-to-back games of 3 targets. Have some patience with the stash of Terrace Marshall Jr. The reward is too high in redraft leagues for the big slot receiver out of LSU not to have him on your bench.
The Traps
Tony Pollard, RB, Dallas Cowboys
Tony Pollard is purely a handcuff. Dallas decided to go with the ground game in week 2 against a leaky Chargers defense. That suited Pollard, who made the most of his opportunities while Ezekiel Elliott rested.
- Week 2: 13 attempts 109 rushing yards 1 TD, 3 / 3 catches 31 yards
Let’s not forget week 1 when Dallas decided to go with an outside passing game against the Buccs staunch defensive line.
- Week 1: 3 attempts 14 rushing yards, 4 / 4 catches 29 yards
Don’t spend all-important waiver/FAAB on Pollard unless you really want a handcuff to get ahead of the curve in case an unfortunate injury happens to Ezekiel Elliott.
K.J. Osborn, WR, Minnesota Vikings
K.J. Osborn had another solid outing, but don’t go spending high FAAB on him after the first 2 weeks. He had a long TD bomb from Kirk Cousins against a flimsy Cardinals secondary. His snap rate also dropped from week 1. And if it wasn’t for the long TD, he would have finished with 4 catches for 27 yards.
If he can perform over the course of the next two weeks against the Seahawks and the Browns, I might change my tune.
Braxton Berrios, WR, New York Jets
Braxton Berrios is being utilized as a check-down target for Zach Wilson. Meanwhile, Elijah Moore continues to acclimate, and Jamison Crowder returns from injury. Don’t do it and leave him to someone else to claim.
