The Jaguars have agreed to send linebacker Joe Schobert to the Steelers.

Joe Schobert has been an incredibly productive inside linebacker over his career. He is coming off a season where he totaled 141 tackles, 6 for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions. Schobert has been an impact play-maker over his career, totaling 11 sacks and 9 interceptions across five seasons. Watch this beautiful interception made here by Schobert:

I read here in a tweet from PFF first, that Schobert is being dealt to the Steelers:

How He Helps Pittsburgh

Schobert has also been one of the healthier and reliable linebackers in the NFL, having only missed three games over five seasons. The Steelers are in win-now mode with Ben Roethlisberger‘s career winding down. They have a talented young linebacker in Devin Bush, though he is coming off an ACL tear.

Robert Spillane and rookie Buddy Johnson round up the linebacker group after Bush. Vince Williams retired and it left a hole in the middle of a defense, who is otherwise a top-five group. Schobert will sure up the middle of the defense and form a formidable duo with Bush, making them one of the better inside linebacker duos in the league.

If there was one thing that the Steelers were missing from their linebacker group, it was a man who can cover and Joe Schobert can do exactly that. Schobert is still an elite IDP asset, and maybe even more so that he is joining the Steelers and their powerful defense. Details on the trade will be updated soon.

Update

Joe Schobert has apparently been picking up the defense quickly, running with the first team and wearing the green dot. Joe Rutter of Tribune-Review Sports gives is some insight here:

This further confirms to me that it will be Schobert and not Devin Bush as the team’s LB1. If things change leading up to the regular season I will keep you updated.
