The IDP Dude breaks down the week 2 Thursday Night match up and what you should do moving forward

Carolina Panthers

Luke Kuechly, LB: 17 TOT, 8 Solo, 2.5 TFL, 1 PD, 100% snaps played

Unstoppable is probably the best word to describe Luke. Undoubtedly one of if not the best linebacker in the game. Don’t ever try to get cute with his match up, he’s an every week plug and play and those who drafted him are already reaping the rewards.

Shaq Thompson, LB: 8 TOT, 3 Solo, 1 TFL, 100% snaps played

I’ll admit when I’m wrong and I’d have to say I was wrong on Shaq so far this year. Obviously playing second fiddle to Kuechly, Thompson appears to hold some standalone value with another solid performance on Thursday night. He’s officially on the LB2/3 radar until further notice. If he’s available, I’d suggest picking him up as a nice value piece for your IDP squad. Read more about Shaq Thompson.

Donte Jackson, CB: 6 TOT, 4 Solo, 100% snaps played

This was a solid outing for Jackson who has looked every bit of good if not better than he did last year. While it’s hard to justify using him as a general DB in IDP leagues, he should be 100% rostered and stared every week if your league requires you to play a CB. Read more about Donte Jackson.

Brian Burns, OLB: 3 TOT, 2 Solo, 1 Sack, 2 QB Hits, 66% snaps played

Burn saw a slight bump up in snaps from his 57% in week 1 but the hard truth is he’s still hard to use with the LB designation. Unless your league has an “edge” position or Burns is still tagged as a DE/DL I’d suggest leaving him on your bench or better yet on waivers. Though he was productive in his playing time, he’s unlikely to be productive for your fantasy team.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Vernon Hargreaves, CB: 12 TOT, 11 Solo, 1 PD, 97% snaps played

Hargreaves is officially on notice. Coming off a three tackle, pick six game last week, Vernon has been a bright spot at CB in IDP leagues. Given the type of game scripts I expect to see, he should be rostered in every CB required IDP league. Of course, even more than his pick six, Hargreaves highlight goal line stop on Christian McCaffrey at the end of Thursday nights game was the icing on the cake. Missing almost all last season, he looks back to form and is a playmaker for the Bucs secondary.

Devin White, LB: 2 TOT, 8% snaps played

There was a collective gasp from the IDP community when White went down early in the first quarter. What was originally thought to be a serious injury has turned into a day-to-day rehab on a sprained MCL. Though he avoided serious injury, the MCL will still leave some in the IDP community uneasy moving forward. Kevin Minter immediately replaced White’s spot in the middle and had himself a day. Playing 92% of the snaps, Minter racked up 8 tackles, good for second best behind Hargreaves. If you have shares of White I’d highly suggest making some room on your roster for Minter this weekend should White miss any time. Although the talent gap is vast, the position is one that’s lucrative for production and that’s really all you should care about. Read more about Devin White.

Shaquil (Shaq) Barrett, OLB: 3 TOT, 3 Solo, 3Sacks, 3 TFL, 4 QB Hits 78% snaps played

Shaq had himself a game. Much like Brian Burns, it’s hard to fit Barrett into your lineup as a LB but if he’s “edge” eligible in your league he’s another must add. Adding to hit 4 tackle, 1 sack week 1, Barrett is flourishing in the Bucs new defensive scheme and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down. If your IDP league has any premiums or big play bonuses for sacks regardless of position, Barrett is worth a stash on your bench for now and could be a great flex or bye week fill in but the time to acquire without notice is coming to an end.

Jordan Whitehead, S: 3 TOT, 3 Solo, 3Sacks, 1PD, 99% snaps played

Another solid performance for the Bucs safety, Whitehead now has 14 tackles on the season and is taking full advantage of Justin Evans being placed on IR. Whitehead was a popular sleeper before the start of the season but there nothing hush about him now as it looks like he’s on his way to have a heck of a season. If he is somehow still available, scoop him up before he’s gone. He could have a 100 tackle campaign.
