IDP Takeaways New York Giants

For the Giants, many miscues and poor tackling. With upcoming games in the next 7 weeks against the Dolphins, Bills, Commanders, Jets, and then another Cowboys game out there looming, I expect this offense to struggle, particularly the offensive line. This is going to be a tough season, As most of us knew this coming in, none of us predicted how inept the defense would be, giving up 40, 28,30 in the first three contests.

Kayvon Thibodeaux did the robot and sort of went away (3 tackles, 1 sack). It’s nice to finally make some noise and achieve a sack. As the team struggles so has he. It’s concerning and managers will have to ride this out. Such is the agony in IDP, keep a look out for these ebbs and flows though. If managers were quick to trade him or got emotional and dropped now is your chance to scoop him up as top talents always find a way. This should be a reminder that 17 games in the Fantasy season is a marathon, not a sprint.

IDP Waiver Wire New York Giants

As I mentioned the Giants were a poor tackling group. The only exception is Micah McFadden stands out as the sole redeeming bright spot for the Giants. He made a noteworthy contribution with an impressive tally of 10 tackles (the second 10+ outing in three games), including four tackles made behind the line of scrimmage. The Giants will hope to forget this game, but we will certainly not forget about McFadden (rostered 0%) being rostered in those leagues moving forward.

San Francisco 49ers IDP Stats, Snap Counts, and Scores

IDP Takeaways San Francisco 49ers

After three games, The 49ers made it to 3-0 and scored over 30 points in all three matchups! They get there with solid quarterback play from Brock Purdy. But let’s not discount the significant team effort the defense did here. The IDPs made Daniel Jones struggle, averaging a mere 4.3 yards per pass attempt, resulting in a total of only 137 passing yards throughout the game.

On the ground, despite missing Saquon Barkley, had a meager average of 2.6 yards per carry, accumulating just 29 rushing yards in the entire match. The Giants did have a rushing TD but it was meaningless and should not be looked at in this analysis.

All this is meant to be said, that a team like this which is dominant on both offense and defense lines, and could be superior on all three levels is going to be a tough out each and every week.

IDP Waiver Wire San Francisco 49ers

It is true that the San Francisco defense as a whole deserves recognition here for their outstanding performance. They effectively shut down the Giants’ running game and continuously pressured Jones as a passer, recording two sacks and one interception. Here it is hard to highlight just a few players.

Notably, Nick Bosa and the interior defensive line players, including Javon Hargrave, Arik Armstead, and Javon Kinlaw, each generated at least three pressures during the game. All these guys are worth a look depending on your formats.

Sticking with the 49ers, let’s highlight Javon Hargrave, still a little unknown (only rostered in 13% of leagues) illustrated exceptional strength and leverage, not only getting after the quarterback with three pressures but also generating 3 tackles and 1 sack.

San Fransico also has a sneaky add at linebacker. Additionally, Oren Burks has exceeded expectations. He not only played a pivotal role in the five stops mentioned earlier but also emerged as a leader on the immensely talented 49ers’ defense, recording 2 tackles for a loss. Notably, one of these tackles was a 9-yard stop behind the line of scrimmage. He is rostered in 0% of leagues.

Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens

IDP Takeaways Indianapolis Colts

This DL may be dominant?

We all know DeForest Buckner is awesome, even with a lower stat line this week. The Kwity Paye breakout continues with another sack. Samson Ebukam also recorded another sack and played around two-thirds of snaps again. Taven Bryan and superstar Zaire Franklin also recorded sacks, for 4 total on the day (granted Baltimore was missing their LT and C). Grover Stewart did not do much as a rusher (as is not his prerogative) but was very good against the run, as always.

The LBs are still muddled

Zaire Franklin is still a star. He leads the league in tackles through 3 weeks. Shaquille Leonard played a nice 69% of snaps and was productive. What is less nice is the 50% of snaps from E.J. Speed. The gap is there, but Leonard is far from the player who was a star earlier in his career, while Speed is ascending. Leonard is still playable week-to-week, but the massive ceiling is gone.

The young DBs are fun!

Julian Blackmon has played every snap this season and again had around 80% of snaps in the box/slot. He is climbing into stud territory with this usage, oh and he had another dozen tackles. Julius Brents had a solid debut, with a handful of tackles and a massive fumble forced and recovered on 74% of snaps (pushing Darrell Baker to a healthy scratch). Slot corner Kenny Moore and deep safety Rodney Thomas had solid performances as well.

IDP Waiver Wire Indianapolis Colts

If Julian Blackmon is there… go get him. He is a borderline S1 for the rest of the season.

Samson Ebukam has taken the pass rush role, with two-thirds of snaps and a sack in back-to-back weeks. He does have a low floor, but in sack premium/bestball leagues, he is an upside shot.

E.J. Speed is still the clear LB3, but if Leonard gets hurt (again) or regresses (more) he will take a real LB2 role. He may do it anyway, the Colts love him.

(Juju) Julius Brents returned from injury and immediately logged significant playing time. He is a great option in CB-required leagues.

Baltimore Ravens IDP Stats, Snap Counts, and Scores

wpDataTable with provided ID not found!

IDP Takeaways Baltimore Ravens

Kyle Freaking Hamilton!

Three first-half sacks are incredible for a S. Even without the sacks, Hamilton had the sort of day that made him the breakout candidate for many (including myself) this season. He played every snap again (one missed on the year) but reclaimed the slot/box role as Geno Stone (who also had a great game, but left with a rib injury) moved to the deep safety role with Daryl Worley. Hamilton is the best slot player in the league, so should stay here and see the breakout build off of this game.

Cheaper by the Dozen

A dozen tackles for both Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen is wonderful, though boosted by a run-heavy Colts attack, even without Anthony Richardson. Boundary corner Brandon Stephens was also close to the dozen tackle threshold, largely due to the run-heavy approach and quick, short passing that have to be at the center of a gameplan with the highly limited Gardner Minshew.

The DL/EDGE is clustered

With Odafe Oweh out, the other edge players on the Ravens had a chance to show out. Unfortunately, David Ojabo left after 4 snaps and Jadeveon Clowney saw his snap percentage drop by twenty (78% to 58%). Tavius Robinson (65%) and Jeremiah Moon (55%) took the other snaps but were uninspiring, though Moon produced more and looked better.

The iDL stayed status quo, with Justin Madubuike seeing around 75% of snaps and Michael Pierce being around 60%. Both remain good plays in DT-required leagues and have high floors with some pass rush upside (6 pressures from Pierce with Colts C Ryan Kelly out).

IDP Waiver Wire Baltimore Ravens

Marlon Humphrey may be back this week. The outside corner is typically very good for fantasy, despite his alignment, and is worth a grab in leagues, especially where a CB is required.

Jeremiah Moon was the best edge player for the Ravens, so should see more time if Oweh and/or Ojabo miss more time.

Tennessee Titans at Cleveland Browns

By Joeseph Harlow (@joelow63)

Tennessee Titans IDP Stats, Snap Counts, and Scores

wpDataTable with provided ID not found!

IDP Takeaways Tennessee Titans

Even in a blowout, the stars shone

Roger McCreary and Amani Hooker – returning from injury – both posted double-digit tackles (including a sack from McCreary) and showed they are top plays at CB and S, respectively. Hooker stepped back into his box safety role, while McCreary stayed in the slot with Kristian Fulton (who also had a great game) returning to the outside. Azeez Al-Shaair had his best game of the young season and hopefully can continue the production.

But not all of the stars shined

Jeffery Simmons and Kevin Byard (probably the two best players on the defense) did not perform as well as the group mentioned above. An interior rusher and deep safety do have variance in their week-to-week production, so this weak showing should not be a concern for the future. The Browns iOL is top-tier, and they did not need to take many deep shots, so both were planned out a bit. Both are still great plays in most matchups but do have some risks.

The pass rush is unpredictable

Denico Autry recorded another sack, but only a couple of tackles keep him as a boom-or-bust sort of play. The other two sacks recorded by the Titans came from the back seven, as Harold Landry and Arden Key were incredibly quiet. Teair Tart did not add much as a rusher but did make some plays in the run game (similar to LB2 Jack Gibbens). The rushers may be better sat in games that the Titans are projected to be trailing (which could be a majority).

IDP Waiver Wire Tennessee Titans

The wire for the Titans is pretty bare at this point. Jack Gibbens and Teair Tart are the most likely players on waivers. If the Titans are behind, both should see more opportunities against the run.

Outside corners Kristian Fulton and Sean Murphy-Bunting were picked on a lot in this game, leading to many tackles. They may be worth a look in deep leagues with big play bonuses and requiring corners but still are not great weekly plays due to their positions.

Amani Hooker returned with a vengeance and it he stays healthy, should be a top 12-16 DB option all year long with one of the highest ceilings at the position. His incredible upside should be rostered in 100% of IDP leagues.

Cleveland Browns IDP Stats, Snap Counts, and Scores

wpDataTable with provided ID not found!

IDP Takeaways Cleveland Browns

The king has returned!

There was never a reason to worry about Myles Garrett. He dominated the first two games but just missed on getting to the quarterback. The Titans’ atrocious OL helped fix that, allowing 9 sacks to Garrett (it was “only” 3.5, he had 9 pressures on 28 pass rushes). Garrett is one of the best in the game, he should be locked into lineups, even against non-Titan opponents.

Can we play the Titans every week?

Unfortunately for the Browns, no. Fortunately for Browns FFIDP managers, also no. Aside from Garrett, no Browns player did much for fantasy. The Titans ran less than 50 plays (almost 20 less than the league average), which made it difficult for anyone to fill the stat sheet, especially with Garrett dominating how he did.

The LB room is still kind of gross

As expected, Anthony Walker had the lion’s share of LB snaps, against the Titans’ run-heavy look with 77%. JOK’s 67% bested Sione Takitaki’s 56%, and also paced the team in tackles. Walker and JOK are the top LBs through the first three games, with the best play being matchup (and/or scoring system) dependent.

IDP Waiver Wire Cleveland Browns

Anthony Walker may still be on waivers in some leagues, as he is not the biggest name in the LB room and missed last season. He is worth a grab as the leader in LB snaps thus far.

Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has seen around 60% of snaps every game thus far as the third rusher in Cleveland. He has shown juice in his career and could take a big step if Za’Darius Smith does not recover quickly (limited this week after an injury in week 2).

Run-stuffer Dalvin Tomlinson is the snap leader at DT, but still only has just over half. Shelby Harris has the most pass rush juice of the interior group, but he and Maurice Hurst are splitting reps at around 40% apiece.

Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions

IDP Takeaways Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons defense was not the issue, and they kept this game closer than it should have been. Just 4-14 passing efficiency on third downs giving up (29%). Most of what the Falcons gave up was underneath to Sam LaPorta. The better team just won in this game, this defense has shown to be much improved from last season.

IDP Waiver Wire Atlanta Falcons

Remember week one where Jessie Bates balled out? Well if for some reason he is still there or was dropped, he had another impressive season start with yet another interception, making it three interceptions in as many games. Bates also showcased his defensive prowess by leading the team in total tackles for the day with 11. Still only rostered in 3% of leagues.

At the time of this article being written, it is rumored that Troy Andersen might be hurt again, if this is the case his immediate replacement is (Nate) Nathan Landman and he could literally be rostered free in all leagues.

Kaden Elliss who is both an above-average run stuffer as well as an above-average pass rusher might see LB1 snaps here. He could be available in shallow leagues.

Detroit Lions IDP Stats, Snap Counts, and Scores

The Lions came away with 7 sacks and continued to confuse Ridder all night. This was evident as he never had time to throw the football, and the times that he did was only 55% completion rate. You have to give credit where credit is due as Aidan Hutchinson dropped a pair of sacks, the first of his season.

IDP Waiver Wire Detroit Lions

Brian Branch seems to be the benefactor of a banged-up secondary, achieving 11 tackles and showcasing his ability to get to the ball.

Both Charles Harris and Romeo Okwara rotated in and provided good support on the other side. In deeper leagues it’s never a bad idea to grab one of these guys, playing opposite of Hutchinson will command one-on-ones.

Old guys come up empty

Demario Davis only gave us four tackles and no splash plays in his season-high 79 defensive snaps. He does that sometimes, and that is why he isn’t listed in the elite ranks of the linebackers. He will be fine. Cameron Jordan decided this weekend was the best time for a donut, much to the chagrin of IDP managers. Sometimes edge rushers give us nothing, but Jordan isn’t the stud he used to be.

Young guys are solid

Although Carl Granderson didn’t record a sack this week, he did give us four tackles. He has been solid and there are no concerns with his play. Pete Werner only missed one snap and rewarded managers with 11 tackles. Both of these guys are knocking on the door to becoming studs every week.

Alontae Taylor does it all

All Alontae Taylor did was record five solo tackles, two tackles for a loss, sack the quarterback once, and break up five passes on 79 snaps. That’s the kind of production you want from a cornerback. Expect another strong performance from him next week and possibly the entire season.

IDP Waiver Wire New Orleans Saints

If you need a cornerback to stream, Alontae Taylor should be in consideration. He is getting decent tackle numbers, and eventually, the pass breakups will become interceptions.

Isaiah Foskey totaled four tackles but only played 11 snaps. Don’t be fooled by the tackle numbers, he isn’t getting enough playing time for redraft.

Jordan Howden played all 79 defensive snaps but only managed four tackles. He is better left on the waiver wire for now, unless you are truly desperate.

Safeties love playing New Orleans

The Saints were giving up the third most points to safeties before this game, and that trend didn’t stop against the Packers. Rudy Ford and Darnell Savage both lead the Packers’ defense with seven tackles each. Savage has recorded at least seven tackles in every game and looks like a really solid start each week. Need a streaming option at safety? Just fire up whoever is starting against the Saints that week.

De’Vondre Campbell injured

De’Vondre Campbell only managed 11 defensive snaps before exiting the game with an ankle injury. There haven’t been any updates on the injury at the time, but he was an estimated “Did Not Practice” for Monday. Isaiah McDuffie got a 61% defensive snap share after Campbell’s departure.

Rashan Gary goes off!

Playing only 23 snaps as he is slowly being worked back into the lineup, Rashan Gary made the most of his opportunities. Three sacks are great on a full share of snaps, but to do it on only 23 is mind-blowing. The Packers have a short week and host the Lions on Thursday night, but he should be rested enough to keep the hot streak going.

IDP Waiver Wire Green Bay Packers

With De’Vondre Campbell missing the majority of the game and having a short week to get healthy, point to him sitting out Thursday night. If that scenario becomes reality, Isaiah McDuffie is the guy that should see the majority of snaps at linebacker. He plays well downhill towards the line of scrimmage and could rack up plenty of tackles.

Rudy Ford is still available in many leagues and could be a good streaming option or injury replacement. He has seven tackles in each of the last two games and may see some more tackle opportunities if Campbell is out.

Kenny Clark is a good option in DT-required leagues. He has at least a half-sack in every game this year and is usually good for a few tackles.

CHRISTIAN HARRIS SEASON… is over

One of the top breakout candidates at LB this season (he was one of my darlings as well) has been officially replaced. With top LB Denzel Perryman out, Harris jumped up to 62% of snaps up from 39%. However, this was third in LB snaps, behind Henry To’oTo’o (he will get his flowers in a minute) and Blake Cashman, in his first game back from injury. Harris did only play one less snap than Cashman, but the box score shows the impact in tackles and impact plays.

Christian Harris should be kept on deeper dynasty squads with his talent (and that To’oTo’o is still a flawed player) but there is likely no redraft format where he should be rostered. Another note with Harris: he has not played special teams for Houston (5 total snaps in week 2 is it), which is a huge concern. If he is not trusted or able to make plays there, he may be passed over for upticks in play on defense.

Your LB1 is Henry To’oTo’o

At least while Denzel Perryman is out. To’oTo’o played 95% of snaps and paced the team in tackles (along with Shaq Griffin, the outside corner who is unlikely to repeat those numbers due to alignment and game script). He is the most trusted LB on the team and is a great play while Perryman is out and should be a solid one afterward.

Jimmie Ward is back and great as ever

Ward played 95% of snaps (50% of all snaps were in the box/slot) and had 8 total tackles. Ward is the box safety for Houston (as he was with Demeco Ryans in San Francisco) at least until Jalen Pitre is back. The sure tackler is a good player in all matchups until that time.

Hard to read the rest of the team

Will Anderson is a stud. He is the best player on the defense and the numbers will come (4 pressures on 30 pass rushes, felt like more). The rest of this defense is so injured that it is hard to gauge what is and isn’t real.

IDP Waiver Wire Houston Texans

Henry To’oTo’o is probably not there, but take a look. If Denzel Perryman misses more time, Blake Cashman may have played himself into the LB2 slot. In a deep league, he may be worth a flier, especially if there are big play bonuses (2 PBUs, INT, and FR this week).

Jimmie Ward is a high priority at S. The defense’s captain is smart, steady, and a great tackler who is loved by DeMeco Ryans. He should have a great role while Jalen Pitre is out but still could have a decent one afterward.

Grayland Arnold played well in relief of Tavierre Thomas (hand surgery) in the slot with a handful of tackles and 73% of snaps (only one snap as an outside corner). In a deep, CB-requiring league, he could be worth a shot if Thomas continues to miss time.

The Linebacker situation may be muddied in the next week(s)

Foye is Foye. Another day at the office filling out the stat sheet. NEXT!

Devin Lloyd (in his first game in the “start your studs” category…) struggled and then injured his thumb, missing chunks of time (down to 75% of snaps). Chad Muma played 34% of snaps in relief of/rotating with Lloyd, but didn’t do much. Lloyd is a tougher play next week – if active – as he is less likely to have a full workload.

The EDGEs continue to frustrate

Travon Walker had a solid game, adding a couple of TFLs and a QB hit to his line. He continues to be a safe play with his run defense but needs to get to the QB more consistently to reach 1st overall stock. Josh Allen hit C.J. Stroud three times but could not bring him down. The sacks should come (even if not in the same manner as week 1, with three), but a low tackle floor is massively concerning.

The safeties are still really good

Andre Cisco and Rayshawn Jenkins each had a solid tackle number and remain solid weekly plays. Jenkins still is a majority box/slot player so has the higher floor, but Cisco has a great big play upside (even if none this week) and did play more in the box/slot than normal. The duo has missed ten combined snaps this season, so they are solid-to-great plays each week.

IDP Waiver Wire Jacksonville Jaguars

Chad Muma is the top name here. He will step into the LB2 role if Devin Lloyd misses any time and would be a solid play.

Roy Robertson-Harris led the iDL with 73% of snaps (beating his iDL leading mark of 61% in the first two games) and had a handful of tackles. He is a fine pickup in DT-requiring leagues, but probably will not see 5+ tackles in most games, as Jacksonville shouldn’t be in this sort of game script often.

Denver Broncos IDP Stats, Snap Counts, and Scores

IDP Takeaways Denver Broncos

There is nothing redeeming about the Broncos’ performance. In a game allowing 70 points of defense, any of the defensive coaches would have been fired by now. Vance Joesph was the Broncos’ former head coach 2018-2019 season, so the ties are a little stronger than the front office than you would expect. This game is mostly unwatchable. A few redeeming qualities (Russell Wilson had 24 points, and the Broncos had some garbage time stats) outside of that this team needs to rethink its scheme.

IDP Waiver Wire Denver Broncos

Jonathon Cooper DL, is starting over Frank Clark and most people have not noticed. In three games this season, he now has 17 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. You could do worse here.

With an injury to Josey Jewell, rookie LB Drew Sanders appears to be the replacement. His production in this game was virtually zero, so there is some concern there. However, if he takes over fully for any absence Jewell might experience, that opportunity cannot be ignored. Sanders should be added in mid-sized to deeper leagues starting at least three LBs.

This team is finally getting in under Vic Fangio on defense. While the offense got most of the credit it was the defense who made big plays. Led by safety Jevon Holland, who is currently 2nd in the NFL in tackles (23) was particularly impactful, forcing two fumbles,

IDP Waiver Wire Miami Dolphins

Emmanuel Ogbah finally broke out this season and contributed in a big way with an interception, a sack, and a tackle for loss. On Sleeper he can be played as LB/DL, the latter is where he has value.

Justin Bethel, a defensive back, registered two tackles for loss, while fellow defensive backs Kader Kohou and DeShon Elliott each managed to break up two passes. The secondary is what you want in a Fangio defense as fewer box safeties and more coverage players get snaps here. Known in the league as “Fangio Quarters” many DBs play deep but will move up to the line of scrimmage and play as linebackers achieving easy tackles. Depending on your league size any of these are worth a pick up.

Kenneth Murray is….good?

For the second week in a row, Kenneth Murray received the start in place of the injured Eric Kendricks (hamstring) and had himself another big day. Last week it was the 10 tackles and a sack, this week he added another nine tackles and an interception. We are seeing a lot of versatility and playmaking ability that made him a first-rounder back in 2020. You have to wonder if his strong play will lead to more playing time once Kendricks returns. If Kendricks continues to miss time, keep Murray locked in your starting lineups.

Derwin James injured

A hamstring injury in the third quarter would end up forcing James to exit the game early this week. He was still able to collect seven tackles on 63% of defensive snaps and was on pace for an 11-tackle day. We are currently awaiting MRI results to see the severity of his hamstring injury, but initial reactions indicate it’s not serious. JT Woods filled in a safety after James departed.

Edge Rushers harass the Vikings

Joey Bosa recorded another sack while being limited to a 34% defensive snap share. Khalil Mack kept his zero-sack streak alive but did manage two QB hits which shines a small amount of hope that a sack could be coming. Rookie Tuli Tuipulotu has seen 77% of defensive snaps and recorded a sack in each of the last two games. He had a team-leading four QB hits against the Vikings.

IDP Waiver Wire Los Angeles Chargers

Tuli Tuipulotu has shown to be productive two weeks in a row. As long as Joey Bosa remains on limited snaps, Tuipulotu is worth consideration in deeper leagues. There is a chance he has played well enough to keep a higher snap share moving forward.

Alohi Gilman continues to put up decent numbers while playing every snap. If injuries have depleted your secondary, you could do a lot worse than Gilman in medium to deep leagues.

Michael Davis played 100% at outside corner with J.C. Jackson benched. He is a strong streaming option in all formats, and more so when the matchups are favorable.

Cornerbacks go off

Huge games for both Byron Murphy and Akayleb Evans this week as both were busy racking up double-digit tackles. They are being targeted about the same by quarterbacks, and are both solid streaming options moving forward.

Hunter still hunting down QBs

Another week and another sack for Danielle Hunter, bringing his season total to five. His tackles went down a little to four this week, but he added a forced fumble to the stat sheet. Hunter continues to play a high volume of snaps and is a must-start regardless of the opponent.

Bynum and Phillips fall back to earth

After starting the season with eight tackles in Week 1 and 13 tackles in Week 2, Harrison Phillips fell all the way down to two tackles on 51 snaps this week. The matchup looked good on paper, so we will see how he rebounds against Carolina. Camryn Bynum on the other hand still had a respectable six tackles. It’s down a bit from the double digits he recorded the first two weeks, but he is still an every-down player and should be fine.

Ivan Pace quiet against the Chargers

Ivan Pace saw a season-low 62% of defensive snaps against the Chargers. It’s not uncommon for rookie linebackers to have up-and-down games, and this appears to be a down one. The game script played a role in reduced time, but expectations should be tempered moving forward.

IDP Waiver Wire Minnesota Vikings

If Akayleb Evans or Byron Murphy are on waivers, they are both solid streaming options at cornerback.

Keep an eye on Camryn Bynum in case someone drops him after “only” recording six tackles this week. Your league mate’s impatience could be your gain.
