Preseason is underway! That means it’s time to make sure your fantasy players don’t wind up on the injury report.
Here, I’ll sift through the injury report of each NFL team to bring you relevant updates for your favorite offensive fantasy players. Teams are not required to release an official injury report until the regular season.
Some teams seem to take this more to heart than others, leading many players to miss practice with “undisclosed” injuries. While this lack of detail can be frustrating, it is still vital to monitor these player’s practice presence.
This preseason injury report will be updated as any new information comes in.
Rondale Moore, WR
Moore left last Thursday’s practice with an undisclosed issue that coach Kliff Kingsbury referred to as “precautionary.” Moore has continued to miss practice, but we have still not been granted any further clarification on the issue or its severity. This news isn’t raising alarms for me yet but is certainly worth monitoring as the season approaches.
A.J. Green, WR
Green has missed several practices with an undisclosed injury. The only detail we have been given so far is that it is “something minor.”
Christian Kirk, WR
Kirk is suffering from yet another “undisclosed” injury. Kirk has at least been able to get in some limited practices and was dressed for practice this week.
No significant injuries reported.
Rashod Bateman, WR
Bateman left practice on Tuesday with a groin injury. He is expected to miss multiple weeks and his status is in question for the Ravens’ season opener. Groin injuries are notorious for lingering and becoming aggravated. I would temper expectations for the first-round pick early in the season. Read Joey the Tooth’s most recent article for a more in-depth discussion on what Bateman’s injury means for fantasy.
Marquise Brown, WR
Brown has been dealing with a hamstring injury causing him to miss several practices. The Ravens appear to be taking it slow with Brown’s recovery by limiting him to conditioning work for now. A return in any capacity for Brown is encouraging with plenty of time to return in full before the regular season.
Miles Boykin, WR
Boykin is also dealing with a hamstring injury but is not expected to miss significant time. Boykin has found himself being pushed down the depth chart this offseason, making this missed time even more worrisome for his fantasy outlook.
Zack Moss, RB
Moss left Tuesday’s practice with a hamstring injury and won’t practice Wednesday. The Bills have not given a timeline for Moss to return.
No significant injuries reported.
Tarik Cohen, RB
Cohen suffered a torn ACL Week 3 of last season and is still on the PUP list. If he is able to recover enough in the next few weeks, he may be able to play Week 1, but that is not looking like a sure bet.
No significant injuries reported.
Odell Beckham Jr., WR
Beckham seems to be making significant progress on his way back from a torn ACL. He has been practicing one-on-one with Baker Mayfield but has not been a part of team drills to this point. So far all of the news has been positive regarding Beckham’s return to the Browns.
Anthony Schwartz, WR
Schwartz has been sidelined for all of training camp so far with a hamstring injury. He has avoided the PUP list so far, which is good news, but the missed practice time puts a damper on this deep dynasty stash.
Dak Prescott, QB
Prescott is working his way back from an injury in his throwing shoulder on top of the gruesome ankle injury he suffered last season. Fortunately, Prescott’s shoulder injury doesn’t appear to be too serious and the star quarterback was able to throw during practice on Tuesday.
Amari Cooper, WR
Cooper was a somewhat surprising addition to the PUP list earlier in the offseason but has shown enough progress to be removed from the list this week. While he has not returned to full practice, he was able to work with Dak Prescott on Tuesday and a Week 1 return is looking much more likely.
Courtland Sutton, WR
Sutton suffered an ACL and MCL tear last season but appears to be on track to make his regular-season return on time.
Tim Patrick, WR
Patrick has missed practice with a groin injury that is reportedly not too serious. Patrick appears likely to make a recovery before the regular season but is unlikely to rise above the number 3 role without an injury ahead of him.
D’Andre Swift, RB
Swift left practice last week with a groin injury and has been limited since. The Lions have not been forthcoming with Swift’s timetable for return.
T.J. Hockenson, TE
Hockenson left practice early Tuesday with an undisclosed injury and missed Wednesday’s practice as well. Coach Dan Campbell has said the injury is “minor” so I won’t be alarmed as long as Hockenson is able to return soon.
Quintez Cephus, WR, and Breshad Perriman, WR
Both wide receivers have missed practice lately. Perriman with a hip injury and Cephus with a head injury. It is unclear if the head injury is a concussion, but it appears that both wideouts will have a chance to return sooner rather than later.
Aaron Jones, RB
Jones seems to be recovering from a minor hamstring injury. The Packers appear to be taking Jones’ recovery cautiously but hamstring injuries are always something to monitor closely.
No significant injuries reported.
Carson Wentz, QB
Wentz underwent surgery to repair a foot injury that had apparently been present for some time. The surgery comes with an initial 5-12 week recovery timeline. There has been optimism that Wentz would be able to play for the Colts Week 1, but I would temper those expectations. Wentz has not started rehab yet, so I expect this optimism may be somewhat manufactured.
DJ Chark, WR
Chark underwent a procedure to repair a fractured finger but is expected to play in Week 1.
No significant injuries reported.
Darren Waller, TE
Waller has missed several practices with a mysterious undisclosed injury. Fortunately, he seems to be making progress in his recovery because he was seen working with a trainer on Tuesday.
No significant injuries reported.
Cam Akers, RB
By now, most are probably aware of Akers suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. He will miss all of 2021 with the injury, which will also cast doubt on his future explosiveness.
Jacob Harris, TE
Rookie Jacob Harris underwent core-muscle surgery this summer but has begun practicing with the team. This is a positive sign for Harris to deliver on the dynasty hype that he has experienced this offseason.
Will Fuller, WR
Fuller is already slated to miss Week 1 serving the last of his six-game suspension. Now, however, the oft-injured wide receiver is expected to miss practice with a foot injury. There has not been a timeframe provided for his return at this time.
Preston Williams, WR
Williams is currently on the PUP list following foot surgery last November. Williams was also on the reserve/COVID-19 list but has since been activated from that list. No update at this time for when we can expect Williams off of the PUP list or if the injury will continue to sideline him into the season.
Salvon Ahmed, RB
Ahmed has been a limited participant in practice due to a lower-body injury as he competes for a role behind Myles Gaskin.
Justin Jefferson, WR
Jefferson suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder but is expected to return to practice soon. Relieving news for an injury that initially looked more serious.
Olabisi Johnson, WR
Johnson suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2021 season.
Dede Westbrook, WR
Westbrook is still recovering from a torn ACL last October. He has, however, been able to practice in a limited fashion during training camp, giving hope that the Vikings will have Westbrook for the regular season.
Nelson Agholor, WR
Agholor was limited in practice Monday with an undisclosed injury. He seems to be on track to be ready for the start of the season.
Hunter Henry, TE
Henry underwent an MRI this week on his shoulder and is expected to miss a few weeks. The injury was not considered serious, but it remains to be seen if Henry will be ready by Week 1 to play in full.
Michael Thomas, WR
Thomas received surgery in June for an ankle injury dating back to last season. He reportedly tried to rehab the ankle without surgery but had not progressed enough in his recovery by June. The earliest that Thomas is expected back this season is October, although it could be even longer.
Tre’Quan Smith, WR
Smith has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury. He has now missed a week of practice but was at least present Wednesday. Still no clarity on his injury or when he can be expected back.
Saquon Barkley, RB
Barkley is still recovering from last season’s knee injury. He was limited to individual drills this week. Unfortunately, it is still up in the air whether Barkley will recover in time to play Week 1. Even murkier is whether his first few games back will be full strength or if he will be limited in his workload by the team.
Kenny Golladay, WR
Golladay suffered a hamstring and has only been able to catch passes off to the side of practice. The Giants are expected to take their time in easing Golladay back into practice.
No significant injuries reported.
DeVonta Smith, WR
Smith suffered an MCL sprain the last day of July and is expected to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks. This would make his return late in August, so it is still hopeful he can be fully recovered before the start of the season.
No significant injuries reported.
Rashaad Penny, RB
Penny has been sidelined for a few practices with a thigh injury. Penny is expected back soon, but no official timeline has been given.
D’Wayne Eskridge, WR
Eskridge has been on the PUP list due to a toe injury dating back to June. Eskridge has been participating in conditioning and it appears he is close to returning.
Jeff Wilson, RB
Wilson was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp following surgery to repair a torn meniscus. His original timeline to rehab his knee was 4-6 months. Watch to see if Wilson starts the regular season on the PUP list which would make his earliest possible return Week 7.
If the 49ers do not put him on the regular-season PUP list, he may be able to return in October based on his original recovery timeline.
No significant injuries reported.
Julio Jones, WR
Jones suffered an undisclosed injury last week and has not returned to practice. This isn’t new for Jones, who has often missed practices leading up to games in recent seasons. However, after the injury issues of last season, this is a situation that bears monitoring.
Curtis Samuel, WR
Samuel is currently on the preseason PUP list due to a lingering groin issue. Head coach Ron Rivera has not been concerned and the hope is that he can return soon.
