Best New Rookies to Watch Out for During NFL Combine Weekend

We’ve seen the Ohio State Wide Receivers that have succeeded the last couple of years in Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. I expect Emeka Egbuka to show the same style of skills, hopefully better than his predecessors.

The 2024 NFL season might be in the books, but the 2025 season will be here before you know it. Before the new league year starts on March 12th, those who’ve declared for the NFL Draft will show their skills and abilities at the Combine this coming weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Here are a few key names to keep an eye on:

QB Quinn Ewers, Texas (6-foot-2, 210 pounds)

Despite playing through an oblique injury during the 2024 season, Quinn Ewers still threw for over 3,400 yards and 10 TDs even after missing two games. Ewers also injured his shoulder and clavicle in his earlier 2 seasons with the Longhorns. Nevertheless, he is expected to be a full participant at the Combine. With the higher-ranked QBs Cam Ward & Shedeur Sanders not participating, Ewers has a chance to show how his capabilities stand out.

WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State (6-foot-1, 205 pounds)

Fresh off his National Championship victory with the Buckeyes, Egbuka finished the season with 10 receiving TDs & over 1,000 receiving yards. This past season wasn’t the only time he’s had 10 TDs. During his sophomore year in Columbus, he had 10 receiving TDs & 1,151 receiving yards. We’ve seen the Ohio State Wide Receivers that have succeeded the last couple of years in Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. I expect Emeka Egbuka to show the same style of skills, hopefully better than his predecessors.

DE Mike Green, Marshall (6-foot-4, 248 pounds)

The winner of the 2024 SBC Player of the Year award, Green broke the Sun Belt Conference record for single-season sacks. He also tied Marshall’s single-season record with 17 sacks, which helped with their 10-3 record this past season. He’ll very likely be the first defensive player drafted after Abdul Carter; however, the Edge Rusher from Penn State will not work out at the Combine due to a shoulder injury.

S Malaki Starks, Georgia (6-foot-1, 205 pounds)

Starks is the top player to enter this year’s draft at his position. Many analysts have him being drafted early in the first round. In the first quarter of his first college game, he intercepted Bo Nix after the QB from Oregon attempted a deep pass. This also happened to be the Peach Bowl in 2022. Last season alone he had 77 tackles, 3 passes defended, and 1 interception.
