Time for the underwear Olympics! What 2024 NFL Combine players on offense outside of the top tier can make the biggest jumps and answer the most questions? These players may not be top-10 picks but could turn into great values and upside shots for NFL and fantasy teams alike.
We know the biggest names in this class (Caleb Williams, Marvin Harrison Jr, Brock Bowers, etc) so we will look a bit deeper. NFL and fantasy drafts are sustained by hitting on non-premium picks. Who are some of the 2nd or 3rd-tier players who have a chance to raise their stocks and/or answer questions? The 2024 NFL Combine could give us insights.
We will dive into at least one name at each position, along with an honorable mention or two. Some of the players have massive question marks, while others should just be a blast to watch!

QB: JJ McCarthy, Michigan
McCarthy is one of the most polarizing prospects of the past few classes. He was not utilized fully at Michigan, but was that due to him or a loaded team? His tools appear strong, though only has about 700 pass attempts in his career. The combine will give him a chance to show off those tools next to the other QBs in the class. He is a good athlete with a strong arm, but are the tools enough to warrant a mid-first-round pick?
Honorable mentions: Joe Milton (Tennessee) and Devin Leary (Kentucky)
The Volunteers’ QB has some of the craziest tools at the position, so he just should be a blast to watch. Leary is the QB I am most interested in after the top-8. He has a legitimate NFL arm, but does it stand out amongst the later group of QBs?
RB: Braelon Allen (Wisconsin) and Audric Estime (Notre Dame)
Allen and Estime are two of the biggest backs in this class, but we want to see if they can be more than just two-down bruisers. Quickness, agility, and pass-catching work will be the most important aspects of their on-the-field drills (which, yes, is true for almost every player). It would be great to see them have great 40-yard dashes, but the rest will really show what they could be at the next level. Both backs have a lot of theoretical growth in them due to each being just 20 years old. But they need to show more than strength and power to be potential bell-cow RBs for NFL and fantasy teams.
Honorable mention: Dylan Laube, New Hampshire
Laube is the best receiving back in the class, with favorable comparisons to fellow non-FBS RB Danny Woodhead (yes, they are on the nose). It will be a blast to see him run routes like a WR!
WR: Keon Coleman, Florida State
Another polarizing player is Keon Coleman, from Florida State (via Michigan State). He has some great film with some equally head-scratching film. The biggest questions will be his speed and hands, both of which showed up as issues and strengths across the film. He needs to be a much more consistent player, but if he can show off speed and hands, he may lock himself into round 1 territory.
Honorable mentions: Xavier Legette (South Carolina) and Javon Baker (UCF)
This duo of day-2 picks has received massive hype throughout the fantasy community and scouting circles. The combine will give them a chance to show off their (albeit very raw) tools which could see them jump into round 2, or fall out of day 2 altogether.
TE: Theo Johnson, Penn State
Johnson was the biggest winner at the Senior Bowl amongst the position, can he build off that at the combine? There is a power vacuum after the top two TEs in this class, allowing one to jump into day 2. Johnson has amazing receiving tools and frame (with some potential as a blocker), so may have the best chance of jumping into the TE3 slot. He should test very well, but if his routes and hands look crisp, he could put a stranglehold on that role.
Honorable mention: Dallin Holker, CSU
Even though it sucks to be a CSU Ram (Go Pokes), it does not suck to have Dallin Holker’s profile. He is lesser known but has great film and athletic talent as a receiving tight end. In a class with little depth, he looks to be an interesting flier to take.
