In 50 words or less, here’s a weekly wrap-up!

With ALL the wild free-agency news, we want to make sure you didn’t miss a thing! Here’s your weekly IDP fill, broken up by position.

Do remember that none of these deals are confirmed until free agency officially opens.

Defensive Lineman!

Ravens give DT Justin Madubuike massive four-year, $98 million deal

Sicoli’s Wrap: As we’ve covered in the newsletter Madubuike was never going to hit the open market. Instead he cashes in on his 13-sack breakout season and retains his role for 2024 and beyond. He remains among the best DL in fantasy, particularly in leagues with a DT spot.

Eagles add former Jets DE Bryce Huff for three years, $51 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Getting 10.5 sacks on just 42% snaps gets you quite the contract. Huff’s arrival could spell the end of either Haason Reddick or Josh Sweat, both of which have been in numerous trade reports. He doesn’t turn 26 until April and will be a popular fantasy pick this summer.

Raiders pay up for DT Christian Wilkins, signs former Dolphin for four years, $110 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Wilkins pushed his chips in, and Las Vegas cashed him out. The former Dolphin enjoyed a career year in 2023 with nine sacks. His talent will help the Raiders more than fantasy managers, but Wilkins is still an intriguing fantasy asset under head coach Antonio Pierce, especially for DT-viable leagues.

Giants trade second, fifth-round picks for former Panthers DE Brian Burns

Sicoli’s Wrap: Holy moly. Burns was tagged last week and now receives a $150 million contract with the Giants. He’ll form a formidable pass-rush with DT Dexter Lawrence and edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. It’s good for his dynasty value to receive a long-term deal and even better for the entire defensive line.

Texans add former Titan DL Denico Autry for two years, $20 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Autry had awesome spike weeks for IDP managers in Tennessee, but plenty of duds as well. Houston is a solid landing spot for him on a well-coached defense in need of his services, but he’ll remain boom-bust. He’s most noteworthy in DT-centric leagues if he carries the eligibility.

Vikings give four-year contract worth $76 million to former Texans DE Jonathan Greenard

Sicoli’s Wrap: Good for Greenard, who broke out in 2023 with 12 sacks. Minnesota needed to replace Danielle Hunter, D.J. Wonnum and Marcus Davenport. Greenard turns 27 in May and will have every opportunity to expand on his promising production. Be wary, though, as he enters a more difficult situation in Minnesota.

Vikings DE Danielle Hunter joins Will Anderson in Houston for two years, $49 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: I’m sure DeMeco Ryans doesn’t miss Jonathan Greenard anymore. Anderson and Hunter should be a terrific pass-rush duo, with the former Viking coming off a dominant 16.5-sack season. Both Hunter and Anderson will be attractive fantasy assets in 2024.

Chiefs keep DT Chris Jones for five years, $158.75 million with $101 million guaranteed

Sicoli’s Wrap: Shout-out to our amazing staffer @IDPHunter, who remained adamant that Jones wouldn’t leave Kansas City. The best defensive tackle in football speaks for himself on the field and remains a solid DL option for fantasy. As always, he is most useful in leagues that require a DT.

Colts re-sign DT Grover Stewart for three years, $39 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Stewart had an excellent fantasy season in 2022 as a waiver-wire hero with a career-high 70 tackles and four sacks. His 2023 was more disappointing, though, as he missed six games and recorded 40 tackles and only 0.5 sacks. He’s only fantasy-relevant in DT leagues as a bounce-back candidate.

Browns bring back DE Za’Darius Smith for two years, $23.5 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Smith disappointed most fantasy managers in 2023, but perhaps 2024 will be different. He remains part of a rotation opposite Myles Garrett in Cleveland. His snaps are inconsistent, so barring an injury he remains a sack-or-bust IDP asset.

Former Cowboys DE Dorance Armstrong joins Dan Quinn in Washington for three-year deal worth up to $45 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Armstrong had 7.5 sacks and 8.5 sacks in 2023 and 2022, respectively, under Quinn in Dallas. Armstrong doesn’t turn 27 until June and could see his most usage yet in Washington in a familiar scheme. Keep an eye out here.

Patriots re-sign DE Josh Uche for one-year, $3 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Uche has flashed upside over the years, but snaps and stats have come few and far between. Perhaps a fresh start under head coach Jerod Mayo could see increased usage and subsequent production.

Colts DE Tyquan Lewis turns down outside suitors to return to Indy

Sicoli’s Wrap: Lewis isn’t on the fantasy radar, though he did post career highs in most DL metrics. At 29 years old it seems unlikely, but health has always been his biggest obstacle. Reports suggest multiple teams were interested in Lewis, so perhaps he takes a bigger role in Indianapolis in 2024.

Other DL news to note…

Sicoli’s Wrap: Here are some quick hitters.

– San Francisco cuts DT Arik Armstead.

– DE A.J. Epenesa signs two-year deal worth up to $20 million.

– Eagles DT Fletcher Cox retires, DE Brandon Graham signs one-year deal for farewell tour.

– Seahawks re-sign DL Leonard Williams for three years, $64 million

– Jets add former Cardinals DT Leki Fotu

Linebackers!

Dolphins cut LB Jerome Baker, sign Jordyn Brooks for three years, $30 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Baker’s release now makes sense. Brooks enters a linebacker room that hasn’t been stable for fantasy, but now has a new defensive coordinator from Baltimore in Anthony Weaver that was excellent for fantasy. This is as good an opportunity as possible for Brooks after a shaky finish in Seattle.

Washington signs former Panthers LB Frankie Luvu for three years, $36 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Luvu was an excellent find for Carolina over the last two seasons. Now he takes his talents to Dan Quinn’s new Commanders team that has gaping holes at linebackers. Dallas never had a stellar tackler under Quinn, but this money suggests some high usage is coming.

Chiefs re-sign LB Drue Tranquil to three-year $19 million contract

Sicoli’s Wrap: Tranquil gets paid after filling in admirably as a backup in 2023. He’ll get a chance to operate next to Nick Bolton in 2024, though his upside remains limited while Bolton is healthy. Tranquil is a high-upside LB4 for fantasy. Willie Gay will likely now suit up elsewhere.

Houston finds its new LB1 in Azeez Al-Shaair, inks three-year, $34 million deal

Sicoli’s Wrap: Al-Shaair soaked up tackles in Tennessee as a full-time starter, and now ges the chance to do the same in a fantasy-friendly defensive scheme. Al-Shaair should be a borderline LB1 in tackle-friendly scoring. This is a hit to 2023 rookie Henry To’oto’o, who sits behind Al-Shaair and Christian Harris.

Bucs bring back LB Lavonte David on one-year deal worth up to $9 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: We know one Bucs fan that is happy, @EMT_Ashlie! Tampa Bay has returned Antoine Winfield, Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans this week. Now the franchise legend and star linebacker returns to the fray as the Bucs prepare to battle out a suddenly talented NFC South. David should be a LB2.

Steelers sign LB Patrick Queen for three years, $49 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Woah. Pittsburgh grabs a division rival in Queen, fresh off a breakout 2023 campaign. He will take over an every-down role with Elandon Roberts filling in while Cole Holcomb rehabs. This sets 2023 rookie Trenton Simpson up for a valuable LB2 role in Baltimore.

LB Zaire Franklin receives three-year, $31.26 million extension

Sicoli’s Wrap: After Indianapolis let Bobby Okereke walk a year before the Colts decided to go a different route with Franklin. The linebacker has back-to-back seasons with 160+ tackles and has been an IDP superstar as a result. Things should remain similar with his future ensured in Indy for 2024 and beyond.

Cardinals sign former Patriots LB Mack Wilson for two years, $12.5 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Interesting. That’s not nothing for a player who has primarily made his hay on special teams. It’s possible we begin to see a familiar career arc to another former Patriots linebacker, Elandon Roberts. There’s a lot of opportunity in a thin Cardinals LB room, so keep an eye out.

Panthers sign former Broncos LB Josey Jewell for three years, $22.75 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Jewell had an up-and-down final season in Denver, but received good money. to start in a fantasy-friendly Carolina scheme that saw both Shaq Thompson and Frankie Luvu thrive. With Luvu suiting up in Washington Jewell has a lot of opportunity for a team that could see plenty of opposing rushes.

LB Blake Cashman signs three-year, $25.5 million deal with Vikings

Sicoli’s Wrap: Interesting! That contract says Minnesota expects Cashman take Jordan Hicks’ 2023 role. DC Brian Flores’ defenses have prioritized just one linebacker for fantasy, yet Ivan Pace Jr. is coming off a stellar rookie year as a UDFA. Will he be thrown to the side like Jack Sanborn was in Chicago?

Minnesota also adds LB Andrew Van Ginkel from Miami

Sicoli’s Wrap: Van Ginkel has played inside and out, but should primarily operate on the edge with Minnesota’s depth at inside linebacker. Van Ginkel was terrific in Miami last season and should be a streaming asset at worst opposite newly signed Jonathan Greenard.

Packers release LB De’Vondre Campbell

Sicoli’s Wrap: The Packers saved some cash in doing so. Quay Walker will have to step up in Campbell’s absence, something that he was often asked to do in 2023 due to Campbell’s injuries. Isaiah McDuffie filled in admirably at times, but expect Green Bay to address this position in the draft.

49ers add Yetur Gross-Matos, Leonard Floyd to DL

Sicoli’s Wrap: Gross-Matos will likely chip for rushing defense while Floyd works passing downs. Floyd is the more fantasy-relevant of the two and could see a late-career resurgence in a near-perfect situation down in the Bay. He could be a value in fantasy drafts if his role is large enough.

Titans sign former Chargers LB Kenneth Murray to two-year, $15.5 million contract

Sicoli’s Wrap: Like most two-year deals, Murray is essentially on a prove-it contract in 2024. That’s fair considering Murray’s historical struggles since becoming a first-round pick in 2020. That said, Murray played fairly well in 2023 and outperformed veteran Eric Kendricks. He enters a terrific situation run by Ravens disciple Denard Wilson.

Former Bucs edge Shaquil Barrett signs in Miami

Sicoli’s Wrap:I actually love this. With both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips recovering from injury Barrett would be a natural fit in this defense. His low tackle numbers should continue, which keeps him off the IDP radar. But keep an eye out, purely because football wise this is a great fit.

Other LB news to note…

Sicoli’s Wrap: Here are some quick hitters.

– Miami signs LB Anthony Walker to one-year deal.

– Browns add LB Jordan Hicks for two years, $8 million, likely slots in as LB2.

– Former Saints LB Zack Baun signs in Philadelphia.

– Patriots add former Browns LB Sione Takitaki

– Bills sign LB Nicholas Morrow

– Saints add LB Willie Gay Jr.

Defensive Backs!

Cowboys sign former Panthers S/LB Jeremy Chinn

Sicoli’s Wrap: And we are back! Chinn truthers will remind you of when Chinn was dominating as a box safety. Chinn doubters will point to the last two seasons where he struggled to even be on the field. Dan Quinn is well-suited to get the best out of Chinn, if possible.

Broncos release S Justin Simmons, bring back P.J. Locke

Sicoli’s Wrap: Simmons will get a starting role elsewhere. Meanwhile, Locke returns after impressing as a backup to Kareem Jackson in 2023. Locke was very fantasy-friendly as a starter — 53 tackles, three sacks and two TFLs across 12 games with only eight starts — and will be a popular sleeper pick this summer.

Packers hand out four-year, $68 million contract to former Giants S Xavier McKinney

Sicoli’s Wrap: Green Bay, not known for its external free-agency contracts, made a statement here. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is expected to run many one-safety looks. That could put McKinney on an isolated island for fantasy. We’ll keep an eye out on what coach-speak comes of this.

Eagles reunited with DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson with three-year deal worth up to $33 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: What a strange saga. After getting his bluff called last year during contract talks CJGJ returns to Philadelphia for good money. CJGJ got hurt and missed most of 2023, but the Eagles missed CJGJ more as their secondary fell apart. The versatile DB is right back in the fantasy spotlight.

Bengals sign former Ravens S Geno Stone to two-year, $15 million contract

Sicoli’s Wrap: This is a strange fit considering the presence of young, promising talents in Dax Hill and Jordan Battle. This could mark a transition for Hill to more nickel cornerback while stepping back for three-safety sets. We’ll keep an eye on what the coaching staff says on this secondary.

Bears CB Jaylon Johnson receives huge four-year, $76 million deal

Sicoli’s Wrap: Once a trade candidate to now a franchise cornerstone, Johnson received the franchise tag and signs his extension. His fantasy upside remains a bit unknown — the Bears have had several CBs pop up in recent years — but if Johnson gets work at nickel he could be a sneaky fantasy asset.

Jaguars add former Packers S Darnell Savage

Sicoli’s Wrap: Savage, a former first-round pick, disappointed in Green Bay and will look to kickstart his career in Jacksonville. Savage normally plays deep in the secondary, limiting his fantasy upside. Time will tell if his role remains similar as a Jaguar. A three-year, $21 million deal ensures a starting role.

Bears create strong safety duo by adding former Eagles, Titans S Kevin Byard

Sicoli’s Wrap: Byard had a solid start in Tennessee after some down years, but really took off for fantasy when he was traded to Philadelphia. Byard had 75 tackles in 10 games with the Eagles. He likely won’t replicate that in Chicago with Jaquan Brisker’s skillset, but Byard shouldn’t be forgotten, either.

Chargers re-sign S Alohi Gilman for two years, $11 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Gilman took the starting role and ran with it in 2023 with the Chargers, logging career-highs in tackles (73) and interceptions (2). He wasn’t perfect, but he was serviceable while being thrust into the flames. He should have streaming value in 2024 as Derwin James’ running mate.

Bills release S Jordan Poyer, CB Tre’Davious White

Sicoli’s Wrap: ACL and Achilles injuries have removed White from his job. Hopefully he can bounce back, but it won’t be noteworthy for IDP regardless of landing spot. Poyer, who turns 33 in April, later signed Miami. The Bills gave Taylor Rapp a three-year, $14.5 million contract instead.

Saints S Tyrann Mathieu signs two-year extension worth $13 million

Sicoli’s Wrap: Matthieu hasn’t been his usual fantasy superstar self in New Orleans. He still provides the occasional streaming value, and with Marcus Maye cut there’s an even greater need for Matthieu’s talent. The Saints haven’t relied too much on him in a run-support role as Matthieu used to thrive in.

Other DB news to note…

Sicoli’s Wrap: Here are some quick hitters.

– Rams bring back former Jaguars CB Darious Williams on three-year deal

– Titans sign CB Chidobe Awuzie

– Former Lions/Falcons CB Jeff Okudah joins Houston

– Bears add S Jonathan Owens to revamped secondary

– Packers re-sign CB/KR Keisean Nixon

– Giants add S Jalen Mills

– Steelers trade for CB Donte Jackson
